Deacon Marvin Sherwood Haden

Little did we know that on Saturday, October 12, 2013, God was going to call your name. Marvin Sherwood Haden, 63, departed this life to everlasting life surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthoudious (Gought) and Amie (Big Mama) Haden and father Arthoudious Haden, II and mother Cora Swinger Haden. Marvin attended Charlottesville City School system where he excelled in track and basketball. At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal Savior was baptized and became a member of Zion Union Baptist Church. In 1972, Marvin met, fell in love with and married the love of his life, the former Patricia Jacques in Charlottesville, VA. To this union two children were born, Marvin “Travis” and Tomeka Lashaun. After mastering carpentry skills that he learned from his grandfather (Gought), Marvin moved his family to Richmond, VA., to pursue a career in carpentry. He achieved his dream of becoming an entrepreneur and established “Haden Construction” a licensed carpentry business. Marvin joined Fifth Street Baptist Church in September 1989 and quickly became active and immediately went to work. He was a member of the Men Usher Board #1, Agape Bible Class, Transportation Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Tucker Male Chorus, Tuesday Bible Study, Trustee Ministry and Deacon Ministry. He has left an everlasting mark on Fifth Street Baptist Church when he used his superior carpentry skills and expertise in the renovation of the chapel, library and other areas of the church. Marvin loved his church and church family. For his dedicated service, Marvin was awarded several honors and awards by Fifth Street Baptist Church. He also served his community and was a member of the Celebration Male Chorus. Marvin loved singing, traveling and fellowshipping with the extraordinary members of the chorus. He was an active member of the Neighborhood Watch for the Highland Park Community. Marvin was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He has been an inspiration and mentor to his nephews, whom he loved so much and has been a guiding force in their lives to aid them in becoming the young men they are today. Marvin touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. He maintained this trademark and sense of humor in spite of his illness. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 40 years,Patricia,beloved son, Marvin Travis Haden, his adorable daughter,Tomeka Anderson, devoted son-in-law,Javone Anderson,Sr.;four treasured grandchildren; Andre Haden,Javone Anderson,Jr.,Malachi Haden, and Jayla Anderson; nine brothers and sisters;Arnell Carter, Carolyn Haden, both of Charlottesville,VA;Arthoudious (Cher) Haden,III of Sacramento,CA;Karen (Donald) Patterson and Melissa Haden of Charlottesville,VA;Authia Haden of Richmond,VA;Lorenzo Haden of Charlottesville,VA.;Wilbur (Tracey) Daniels of Louisa,VA.;and Wanda Daniels of Charlottesville,VA.;loving stepmother, Josephine Haden; three brothers-in-law; Carl Jacques, Michael Jacques and Bradford Brash; five sisters-in-law; Barbara Jacques, Mattie Brash,Sadesta Jacques,Dorrine Jacques and Sandra Jacques;cousin-in-law,Linda Sinkler and a host of nieces,nephews,cousins,other relatives and friends.
