Marvin Gentry

Marvin Gentry the son of Edith Gentry and the late George Gentry was born June 8, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was called home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2002 after a sudden illness. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Early in life, Marvin discovered a passion for horses, and mastered the skill of “Arabbing”. He soon became one of the most favored and sought out young Arab entrepreneurs out of East Baltimore. Even though he became gainfully employed with the Baltimore City Waste Water Department, his enjoyment for horses and the trade never ended. He later met and married in holy matrimony Janice Roberson. From this union three children were born, uniting a family of eight children. Marvin loved being the “King of his castle” or the “Head Honcho” that he so often referred to himself as. Marvin instilled morals and principles in his children; and assured them that skies the limit. He was a devoted family man, and epitomizes strength, courage, and character that our family unit represents. Marvin fondly called “Yank”, “Unc”, and “G” will be remembered for his caring and loving heart. His willingness to give a ride or lend a helping hand was exemplified throughout the community. With the morning paper in one hand and a hot cup of coffee in the other, Marvin stayed on top of current events. He would frequently boast about his acquired knowledge, which became the topic of discussion around the dinner table and at family gatherings. He also enjoyed working with and being around children, especially at his youngest daughter’s school. Marvin held several volunteer positions both in the school and in the Middle East Baltimore Community. Everyone who knew him will sincerely miss him. He was a true friend.Marvin is survived by his loving wife Janice Gentry, his mother, Edith Gentry, three sons, Marvin Gentry Jr., Shawn Roberson and Gregory Lane; five daughters, Sheldonna, Michelle, Janice and Kia, Marcia; two brothers, Alvin and Theodric, four sisters, Marion, Jean, Janice Montgomery and Regina Lee; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Montgomery; four sisters-in-law, Yvonne Foster, Antoinette, Darlene and Donna Reese; one aunt, Maria Ford, twenty-two grandchildren, twelve nieces, four nephews, two extended children, John Brice and Ericka Fowlkes, four devoted friends, Willie West Moreland, Robert Washington, Terry Dent and Larry Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends that will cherish his memory.
