Marva Elizabeth Gaines Davis

On Friday, March 27, 2016, the Lord picked from his lovely garden our loved one, Marva Elizabeth Gaines Davis. She was born on January 9, 1944 to the late Maurice E. and Dorothy Hunter Gaines. She graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1962. She furthered matriculated at Virginia Union University where she graduated from in 1967. She accepted Christ and became a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church during the pastorate of the late Reverend Warren Evans. Marva attended church faithfully from childhood throughout her adult life until her health declined. She married Arthur Davis in August 1971 and they shared a wonderful life together until his death. Marva’s passion for education led her to pursue a career as a teacher. She taught in Amelia County for several years and then transferred into the Hanover County School System. She retired after serving for over 30 years as a teacher in 1998. Marva shall be remembered as one who had a humble spirit but yet also was known to speak what was on her mind. She loved gospel music and supported all of her youngest sister's opportunities with the Richmond Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, and more. She enjoyed traveling and taking family vacations. Dallas was one of her favorite places. Cherishing her memories are her four sisters, Easter G. Duckenfield, Mabel “Anita” Conner of Sacramento, CA, her caregivers, Sheila G. Mitchell and her husband, Floyd, who lovingly called her “Sunshine” and Wanda G. Bell of Dallas, TX; two nephews, Dwayne Duckenfield (Maimoona) and Kevin Duckenfield (Tamiko); four great nephews, Maurice Conner, Mason, Caden, and Donovan Duckenfield; two nieces, Chereese Conner of Sacramento, CA and Aria Bell of Dallas, TX; two great nieces, Jacquelyn Conner and Yasmine Duckenfield; three special friends, Brenda Petty, Barbara Hunter and Harold Stills; a host of other relatives and friends. We all have different journeys, different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay... Our destination is a place far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker, for some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, we'll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord.
