Martha E. Shelton

On November 16, 1950 the sun rose on Martha Evelyn Kearney, “Whimpey” which she preferred to me called, and she departed this life on August 2, 2016 after a short illness. She was the seventh daughter born to the late Charles and Helen Kearney. Four of her siblings, Shirley M. Seward, Mildred E. Turner, Mary Julie Shelton, and Louida Mallory preceded her in death. Martha was formally educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. On August 28, 1971 she was joined in holy matrimony to Gregory Shelton. They biolt and shared a life for 45 years. From this union they had three sons; Tyranthony Delano Shelton, Dalvoury Dawnminick Shelton, and Jermaine Durell Shelton, who preceded her in death. Martha accepted Christ at an early age at First Mount Carmel Christian Community Church under the leadership of then late Lorenzo Mallory. She continued her work in the church under the leadership of Pastor Edward R. McClurkin. Martha was a sweet, humble, and faithful servant of the Lord working tirelessly until sickness prevented her. Martha was employed at BARC's for 20+ years where she was loved and respected by her co-workers and clients. Martha had a sweet, kind spirit and compassionate way of handling those with adversities. Martha also worked in her community serving the senior citizens making sure they had cold drinks and candy in the summer and being attentive to their other needs all year around. Wherever she could help, she did. Martha leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Gregory Shelton; two sons, Tyranthony Shelton (Chanteau), Dalvoury Shelton (Dana); two adopted daughters, Angel Walston, Theresa Poke; two sisters, Margaret Kellam (Harry), Jessie Shields (Preston), 14 grandchildren, Tanika, Kyle, Ian, Deontae, Tyranthony Jr., Jatera, John Jr., Kiera, Kaylee, Hayden, Imani, Morgan, Angela, and Andrew; four brothers-in-law, Ronald, Melvin, Steve and Kevin; eight sisters-in-law, Betty Tiggle, Marie Shelton, Linda Young, Anaa Conner, Evelyn Shelton, Wanda Shelton, Patricia Shelton, Vilma Shelton, and a host of nephews and nieces, family and friends, too numerous to mention.
