Martha Evelyn Savoy

Martha Evelyn Washington Savoy, daughter of the late William Preston and Evelyn Washington, was born on August 30, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland and departed this life after an extended illness on September 14, 2016. Evelyn was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1950. Evelyn married he childhood sweetheart, Vernon J. Savoy Sr., on August 20, 1950. She traveled across the country with her Marine Corps husband Vernon, and from this union were born three children, Vernon Jr., Wendy and Michael. Evelyn began her working career at London town Manufacturing Co., Inc. on Clipper Mill Road. She also worked 39 years at the Social Security Administration. Evelyn and Vernon Sr. worked at the Metro West building until they retired. Evelyn took great pride in her appearance and was known for her stylish and well coordinated outfits. Her co-workers noted that and her husband were often in the hallways together near the security office and frequently were even dressed in the same color. One of Evelyn's preferred hobbies was reading, and mysteries were among her favorite. She had a "green thumb" and caring for her plants brought her joy, especially her cactus. She loved getting her hair and nails done making sure that her nail design would compliment her many outfits. She would also enjoyed watching the cooking channel and the DIY episodes which she found very creative as well as entertaining. She attended church services regularly until her ill health prevented her from doing so. Although each of these past times brought her much happiness, nothing could compare to the pleasure brought to her by he beloved grandchild Doreda, and great-grandchildren, Dorravia and Michael. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Wendy. She has gone home to meet her loving husband, Vernon, Sr., (deceased on November 20, 2013), and sons Vernon, Jr. (deceased December 9, 2013) and Michael (deceased May 18, 1984). Evelyn is also survived by her granddaughter, Candace; step great-grandson, Caelus; brother, William Preston Washington (Sylvia); sisters, Patricia Ball (Lesley), Doris Waller. She also leaves a host of relatives, friends, and co-workers.
