Martha May Taylor Rollins

Legacy of Love Martha May Taylor Rollins, “Aunt Dee Dee” was born May 7, 1940, in South Hill, Virginia to the late Leigh Hunter and Zerah Bell Valentine Taylor, the fifth child of twelve. On April 27, 2022, she gracefully went home to be with the Lord while with her sister in Manassas, Virginia. At an early age, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at Lombardy Grove Baptist Church in South Hill, Virginia. She received her early education from the Mecklenburg County Schools. Martha moved to Richmond, Virginia where she attended some college at Virginia Union University. She was employed at Abes Restaurant & Grill until they closed. She transitioned to J.C. Penney’s where she retired after 20 years. After having missed helping people she went on to work part-time at City Trends where they loved “Ms. Martha”. Martha married the late John P. Rollins on January 17, 1981, where they lived happily traveling, cooking, and making memories until his death. Martha loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Fourth Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed seeing the smiles on peoples faces and inspiring others. Martha was active in many roles while at Fourth Baptist which included the Ella Davis Perry Sunday School Class, Mature Travelers Senior Ministry, Family Movie Night Committee, I.H. Carter Senior Choir, Youth Advisory Counsel, Womens Ministry, Music Ministry, and the Thursday Prayer Group. Scripture tells us that it is more blessed to give than to receive and Martha was known for demonstrating this as she cooked dinner at the church before Wednesday Bible Study and breakfast after Sunday School for her church. She was a true servant of love and often known for supplying school clothes and supplies for those in need and her homemade rolls, pound cake, and cookies. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Carrie B. Taylor; four brothers David, Beverly, William Lee, and James Allen; two beloved sisters, Jeanette Richardson and Irene T. Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Queen Harris and one dearly devoted Freda T. Lawrence; three brothers S. Lewis, Calvin Sr. (Leona), and Samuel Taylor; two sister-in-loves, dearly devoted Frances Taylor-Pleasants and Frankie Taylor; one dearly devoted brother-in-love Raymond Lawrence Sr.; five godchildren; dearly devoted niece Rena W. Person (Eric), Jason Glass, nephew Raymond Lawrence Jr., Sigourney Tabb and great-nephew Jordan L. Jones; 15 nieces and nephews, amongst them dearly devoted Lawrence Manning, Calvin Taylor Jr. (Jill), Leandra Wilson, Roxanne Monroe, Taylor, and Jessica Lawrence; devoted friend Yolanda Tabb and honorary sister/friend Helen Armstead; a host of great-nephews and nieces, family, extended family, and friends.
