Martha V. Roberts

Martha Vanlister Roberts, affectionately known as “Vanda” or “Vann” was born on March 17, 1964 to the late Frances Warren-Galloway and James Roberts, Sr., who preceded her in death and were there to greet her in Heaven. Vanda peacefully left this life and gained her wings on February 19, 2016. Although she departed this world quietly I’m sure there was an awesome celebration awaiting the party-girl when she arrived! Vanda attended Carver Vocational-Technical High School in Baltimore City. During her matriculation through school Vanda learned to sew. She was a great seamstress who even designed her own prom dress. She loved to dance and she was good at it! Her favorite genre was Modern Dance. She was an exceptional student who excelled in all subjects, especially Math. Vann was the “Jack of All Trades”. You name it and she’d probably done it! She worked in construction and even operated a forklift. She had an array of jobs in retail and customer service. The customers adored Vanda at the various shops she worked in at the “Old Town Mall”. She had the “gift of gab” and a “passion for fashion”. In her younger years she participated in many fashion shows as a model and designer. Vann’s latest employment endeavor was in Administration through the Baltimore City Public School System. Vanda was the “Life of the Party”. She was the original “Turn-Up” Queen”, also known as “The Queen of Spades”! She loved life and lived each day to the fullest. Even while battling her own health issues she would write uplifting and motivational posts on Facebook that inspired and encouraged others to have faith and to be grateful for each day. Vann was compassionate. She welcomed everybody into her heart and home. She was generous and kind but, she didn’t take no mess! If you started it, Vann would finish it! She had a BIG personality. Trust me, she was definitely “One of a Kind”! Vanda had a huge heart. She loved people and she helped everybody! Her daughter Dria called her “Bea Gaddy” coined after the late Baltimorean who was well-known for feeding and housing the less fortunate. Vanda and Dria were inseparable. Vann absolutely enjoyed the time she shared with her #1 girl. They weren’t just mother and daughter; they were best friends. When her granddaughters were born, Vanda’s heart bubbled over with even more happiness. Her girls’ were the “apples of her eye” and the “sunshine of her life”. She enjoyed singing and dancing with her granddaughter Jayla (Tweety Bird), who found great pleasure in trying to teach her grandmother all of the latest dances. The youngest grand who Vann lovingly called “Noodles” kept her on her toes. Vann was everybody’s favorite! She was just that lovable. Her big bright eyes and beautiful smile will truly be missed. She leaves to celebrate her life: one daughter, Vandria Moffatt; two granddaughters, Jayla Moffatt and Janique Jenkins; two brothers, James Roberts and Keith Roberts, brother, Andre Roberts (who preceded her in death); two sisters, Sheila Matthews and Paulette Roberts; three nieces, Dawniece Roberts, Dawnnae Roberts and Shelby Roberts; two nephews, Christopher Snowden and Brian Snowden; one sister-in-law, Doris Roberts; close friend, Jerome; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
