Martha Charcean Crawley

Martha Charcean Crawley, 71 years of age passed away on Friday February 19, 2021 at home surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Martha was born July 7, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Herman and Fannie Pleasants Sr. She was next to the youngest daughter of 4 children. She was educated in the Richmond Public School System. Martha furthered her education with attendance at Virginia College studying Business. Martha was recognized for her tenacity and as a result, was offered a job as a secretary. Although she enjoyed secretarial work, she migrated back to her roots as a machine operator where she previously was employed by Phillip Morris and most recent Commonwealth Mailing Systems. Martha met Alvin Crawley Jr. at an early age and the two married shortly thereafter. The marriage produced two daughters, Evelyn and Alicia of whom Martha adored. She enjoyed her daughters and absolutely enjoyed being a grandmother to Dayzsha, Brittney, Bryson and great grandchild Kingston (1yrs old). Kingston and “Granny Ma” shared a special bond where he would always see her face and they both smiled endlessly. She was known to be her grandchildren’s biggest fan often cheering the loudest for her grandson saying, “Take it to the hoop baby!” Her granddaughters were never forgotten as she reminded them to be happy and to go after their dreams! Martha, or “Joyce” as she was so affectionately called, loved spending time with her family and friends. Her name was well suited because “Joy” is what she represented wherever she went. Her smile was contagious, beautiful and bright. She never knew a stranger and was always the life of the party! Outspoken, fun, witty and fashion savvy were a few of her attributes. Martha loved music especially Jazz and any tune she could dance to. Her favorite artists were Kem and Frankie Beverly, just to name a few. Martha always wore a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted mother, sister and friend, “To know her was to love her.” Martha was preceded in death by her father Herman Pleasants Sr., Mother Fannie R. Pleasants, and sister Barbara Ann Banks. She leaves to cherish her memory her Husband of no divorce Alvin Crawley Jr., two daughters, Evelyn L. Greene (Donald), Alicia A. Crawley; one brother Herman Pleasants Jr (Mairiazonne), one sister Margaret L. Wade (Ernest); three grandchildren Dayzsha N. Crawley, Brittney L. Crawley and Bryson J. Bullock; one great grandchild, Kingston L Middleton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and devoted lifelong friends.
