Marshella Thornton

On Wednesday, August 1, 2012 a 12:40pm, Marshella Jarrette Thornton-Harris, affectionately known as “Lu” “Lulu” “Aunt Lu” and “Lucy”, departed this earthly life. Although her pain seemed unbearable at times, we all know that God will not burden us with more pain than we can bear. After a strong, courageous and brave fight, God old Lucy to lay down her armor, that the fight was over, and hat she, Lucy, our beloved sister, daughter, mother and friend, had claimed victory over death and was called home to Glory. The day Lucy slipped from his world, a cool, calm breeze blew away he hot, humid steamy air of August. It was as if God was blowing a cool path to lead Lucy along the highway to heaven to her new home in paradise. In her new home there will be no more suffering and no more pain, jus joy. Joy in the morning, joy in the evening, joy all day long, yes everlasting joy! Marshella was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 14, 1957. She was the fifth child of Maurice and Emma Thornton. She attended Baltimore City Schools and was a member of Mount Nebo Holy Church. Marshella held several responsible positions of employment during her brief life, one of which was a receptionist for family dentist Guy Alexander in Baltimore and she also worked in a salon in a dual role as receptionist and manicurist. Marshella had many talents which appeared early in life. She loved sports growing up and was a fierce first base player in the after school recreational program as well as an outstanding volley ball player. As she matured into a young woman, she had the desire to become a singer. Marshella was an excellent cook and loved to prepare fried chicken and scrambled eggs for family and friends. Marshella also had a knack for order and cleanliness, which led family and friends to seek out her services to clean and organize their homes. This earned her the nickname “Hazel” In 2001 Marshella married the love of his life, Zane Harris. The two lived in wedded marital bliss until Zane passed away suddenly in 2003. Marshella is survived by her two sons, Cory Smith and Desmond Carroll; one step-son, Troy Smith; her mother, Mrs. Emma Thornton; father, Maurice Thornton (deceased); four sisters, Denise, Jacqueline, Trina, and Bridgette, and two brothers, Larry, and Donald (deceased). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. During her illness, Marshella lived with her sister Denise who assisted and supported her with love and affection. During this time, Marshella was visited by family and life-long friends, especially, Sabrina Gross, Lorie Dee and Jerline Harris. Marshella was a sweet, kind and loving person. She never had a negative thing to say about anyone and will always be remembered as a caring mother, daughter, sister and friend.
