MARQUENA “MARKY” PERRY WRIGHT, beloved daughter of the late Samuel and Agnes Shanks was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 1, 1950. God, in his infinite wisdom, called her from a world of suffering and pain to live with him and our Savior Jesus Christ on August 15, 2006.Marky received her early Christian education at the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Baltimore, and she was educated in the Baltimore City public school systems. Marky graduated from the Harford Institute and attended the Baltimore School of the Bible. She also attended and graduated from the 3-year discipleship program at New Psalmist Baptist Church.Marky had a burning desire to learn and serve. This was evidenced by her service at New Psalmist in the Wellness Support and New Life Addiction Ministries. She continued her service at the Pennsylvania Avenue AME Zion Church in the Prayer Line, Evangelism, Intercessionary Prayer and Sisterhood Ministries. In September 2004, Marky initiated the Healing Ministry at St. Joseph Freewill Baptist Church; she attended faithfully every Thursday until her health began to fail.Marky held several positions during her work career. Most recently she worked at Independent Dialysis Foundation; there she encouraged patients with a smile, words and prayer. They said, “whenever you encountered Marky, she was always positive, encouraging and praising God for his goodness.”Through love and marriage, Marky was blessed with the joys of her life, Lana, Denine, Troy, Kimberly, Vernon and Brandy. She was a stern and loving mother who was devoted to each of her children. Each child felt that he or she was the favorite. Marky was firmly grounded in her faith and took her service to God seriously. Everyday at 5:30am, she met by telephone with five ladies to have prayer and worship for one hour. Although she struggled with her health issues, she continued to pray for family, friends and neighbors who were facing challenges of their own. Even in her final days and hours; she lifted up the name of the Lord and our savior Jesus Christ.Marky enjoyed life and she was an excellent cook; her sweet potato pies were exceptional. She loved to go to shows and “hang out” with the stars. She has letters form Ann Nesby, Will Downing, George Duke, After Seven, and Rochelle Ferrell, but the most outstanding accomplishment in Marky’s life was that through her illness she encouraged others to choose salvation. Three person accepted Christ as their personal savior at Marky’s bedside during her last hospitalization.Marky possessed a loving and forgiving nature. She welcomed family and friends alike with kindness and concern and never failed to wish them well in their endeavors. She will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of being in her company.Marky was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother, Donnell. She leaves to cherish her memory, four loving daughters, Lana Haywood, Denine Jones, Kimberly Wright and Brandy Wright; two faithful sons, Troy Gore and Vernon Wright; a treasured son-in-law, Edwin Jones; one devoted brother, Ralph Winder; one caring sister, Carolyn Robbins; twelve grandchildren, Deshauna, Keith, Jr., Dijon, Davonte, Kelly, Tyree, Donte, Brianna, Da-mon, Troy, Jr., and Angel; six sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a special sister-in-law, Dianne Haith; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
