Marlene L. Turner

Marlene Louise Cox Turner, beloved daughter of the late Florence and Adolph Cox, was born March 3, 1943. She was called home on May 2, 2017. Marlene was the second child of 8 children. She attended Baltimore City public schools and graduated from Eastern High School in 1960. She worked for the Baltimore City health department. She later worked at BWI as a secretary for the captain of the airport police. This is where she met her future husband, William Turner. She married 'Turner', as we all called him, in 1965. She had 2 children, Joann and Darryl. Marlene then started working at Social Security administration where she worked for the next 35 years. In 2002, she very quietly retired. No fan fare for Marlene, or so she thought. Joann put together a very nice surprise retirement party at her home so her friends and family could celebrate her retirement with her. Marlene spent her retirement enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grand children. There was always someones child in her home. Not only did she raise her children, she had a hand in raising the children of Joann and Darryl's friends as well. Many of these children considered Marlene their grandmother. Marlene enjoyed baking and everyone loved her Christmas cookies and looked forward to them every year. She loved shoes and treated herself to a new pair every day while she was working. Lucky for her she had small feet. No one could borrow them. After Marlene retired, she spent her days watching HSN and QVC. She was a first name bases with the UPS delivery person since they delivered to her house once or twice a week. She was also generous with her purchases. You never knew what new item she had found on those shows that she thought was a novel item, so she bought one for everybody. Marlene loved gardening. Her flowers were the envy of everyone and she was always willing to cut a few, for anyone that asked. She liked sketching designs for homes. She put together a design for her kitchen and her 2 story deck. The builder was skeptical of these designs and did not think they would work. Boy, was he surprised when they did. Marlene was loved by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a kind, generous, and jovial person. She never complained or wanted to be a burden to anyone. She had unconditional love for her family and friends. She maintained her sense of humor and was never out of touch with people or her surroundings. She was never bitter and found peace in reading the bible. Marlene is preceded in death by her brothers, Martin Adolph Jr. (Jackie), Jesse Gerard, William Eugene (Billy), and John Thomas Edwin (Tommy) as well as her daughter Joann Theresa. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Darryl Jason, grandsons De'Vaun Turner and Vauj Turner and granddaughters Valencia Jackson and N'seya Turner, her great grand children Jai'ha Pennyfeather, DeSaun Turner and Ariya Turner. She laves 3 sisters; Florence Chapman, Mary Simmons, and Katherine Taylor. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
