Markiya Simone Dickson

Markiya Simone Dickson Whitfield was born to Mark Whitfield, Sr. and Ciara Dickson on March 2, 2010 in Richmond, Virginia. Markiya came in the world with a beautiful smile that will remain in our hearts and minds forever. Markiya was a full time student at Crestwood Elementary School and often spoke about the amazing days she spent with her awesome teacher, Miss Crystal. She would often highlight her enjoyment of being able to visit her sister, Samaya’s, classroom and check on her as much as she could! Markiya was also a full time sister to Samaya and her little brother Mark Jr. When she wasn’t at school, she spent her time enjoying their company. As sisters, Samaya and Markiya would often make videos on Tik Tok and their YouTube channel which allowed her to show off two of her favorite attributes, singing and dancing. Although youthful, Markiya also managed to find herself working at her family owned restaurant, Sallie’s Kitchen, as a greeter. She would flash her unforgettable smile to customers as they entered, often resulting in obtaining her goal, a gift of cheese sticks, which was a favorite dish of hers. Markiya was full of surprises. She enjoyed writing and drawing whether on paper, computers or tablets as she had a knack for electronics early. Some of her writings revealed that she was also fascinated with spy training, which is obviously top secret, so be sure not to repeat it. Her selfless spirit and love for family and friends was displayed throughout the community by her willingness to help others with her hugs. Markiya’s open personality and glorious smile was certain to brighten your day. On Sunday, May 26, 2019, Markiya knew that death is not to be feared as the absolute end, because the dead who are “in God’s memory” will be resurrected. Markiya is survived by her loving parents, Mark Whitfield, Sr. and Ciara Dickson; brother, Mark Whitfield, Jr.; sister, Samaya Dickson; grandparents, Preston and Cheryl Dickson; uncles, Dion Tuell, Sr., Shawn Whitfied and Anton Whitfield; aunts, Monique Whitfield and Heather Lewis (Lavar); great aunts, Tawney Rawlings (Bruce) and Melody Whitfield; great uncles, Jeronald Tuell (Dawn), Brian Tuell, Darian Tuell and Darius Tuell; cousins, Kalen Henderson, Korey Henderson, Dion Tuell, Jr., Tiawni Tuell, Cordell Tuell, Keshona Hardy, Derrica Cash, Davionna Brown, Precious Jones, Mija Lewis, Ky’von Whitfield, My’kalai Hieskill, My’kel Hieskill, Jy’mir Hieskill, Armonni Jones, Levar Lewis Jr., Kahlia Lewis, Landn Lewis, Nekitra Tuell, Robert Mitchell (Clorissa) and Taylor Mitchell, and host of other relatives, close friends, and classmates.
