Mark Whiting

On Thursday, 8 December 2011, Mark entered a place where the soul is safe and free to lie with God through eternity. Mark Anthony Whiting, Sr., was born on 18 February 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland to Leonard and Louise Whiting both preceded him in death. Mark was the sixth of eight children. Mark was educated I the Baltimore City Public School System. He graduated from Edmondson High School. He also received his Associate Degree from Baltimore City Community College. He served in the United States Marine Corps “Semper Fi”. He was employed by the City of Baltimore, where he was a Hydraulic Mechanic at the Motor Equipment Division Fleet Management where he remained a dedicated employee for thirty years until his retirement in 2008. He was a proud member of Union Local #44. Mark was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life Veronica Lee Clavon on September 19, 1992. Their extended family now joined as one to include Mark Anthony “Tony” Whiting, Jr. and Latisha Lee. Mark had a great interest in all kinds of automobiles. He had a truly unique personality and a sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, home cooked meals, especially bowling and caring for his pets. Mark was a caring neighbor and friend to many. To know Mark was to love him. He provided love, great pride, guidance, support, joy and laughter to his family and friends. Mark showered his wife Veronica, affectionally called “Ronnie” with gifts of love. Mark was a member of the Prince Hall Masons of Maryland. He served as Worshipful Master of Enterprise Lodge #3 from 2000-2002. Mark loved his Masonic Family and enjoyed attending lodge meetings until his health no longer permitted him to. It is difficult to capture in words the unique spirit of Mark Anthony Whiting, Sr. Mark was willing to help anyone do anything- a sweet, gently and kind spirit who was loved by many and will be missed by all. Mark loved his cat Wolfe who was his constant companion for almost seventeen years before his death. To know Mark, he loved to ride around in his truck with his beloved dogs Spike and Samantha. Spike would ride shotgun while Samantha was on post in the backseat. Mark was member of local #44 and was a generous sponsor to many organizations to include the Vanguard Justice Society, Inc., The YMCA just to name a few. Mark did everything “his way.” Even in the end, Mark was determine that he wanted to die at home surrounded by his family at his side and all these things came to pass as he desired and wished for them to be and he died with dignity and pride at home with his wife by his side. Precious memories now remain with those who loved him and with the many lives he touched. He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife of nineteen years. Veronica; son, Mark Jr.; daughter, Latisha Lee (Daniel); three granddaughter, Bryttani, Latesha and Christina; one grandson, London Lee; three sisters, Joyce, Jean and Vanessa; brother, Jerry Whiting; mother-in-law, Sally Clavon of Detroit, MI; five sister-in-law, Marcia Hill (Warren) of Baltimore, MD, Staria Shegog of Detroit, MI, Deborah Bean (Kelvin) of Detroit, MI, Renee Ray (Derick) of Raleigh, NC and Cheryl Travis of Detroit, MI; three brother-in-law, Herman Clavon III (Joan) of Memphis, TN, Gerald Clavon, (Karen) of Baltimore, MD and Lamont Clavon of Detroit, MI; a host of loving aunts and uncles, eight nieces, three nephews, twelve great-nieces, seven great-nephews, twenty-three great-great nieces and great-great nephews, cousins and friends. Siblings, Sonny, Raymond and Dottie and father-in-law, Herman Clavon, Jr. preceded her in death.
