Marjorie Mack

MARJORIE MCKINLEY MACK, daughter of the late James and Alice McConnell, was born on May 21, 1904 in Shelton, South Carolina (Fairfield County). She departed this life peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Her passing has left bittersweet feelings of sorrow, but grateful memories of a blessed, long life of over 101 years. Marjorie was the oldest of three siblings, brother Maceo McConnell and sister Anne Grady, who are both deceased. Her family moved to Florida then Washington, D.C., where she attended Dunbar High School. She also attended Howard University where she majored in Home Economics, with an emphasis in "Dress Making." Marjorie met Frank Mack and they were married in Charles Town, West Virginia, in October 1933. He preceded her in death in July 1962 after twenty-nine years of marriage. Following the death of her beloved Frank, Marjorie lived alone for over forty-two years. Her Christian experiences included membership at the 15th Street Episcopal Church and Emmanuel Methodist Church of Washington, D.C. After moving to Baltimore, Marjorie united with Union Memorial United Methodist Church in 1953. She served for twenty-four years as a Steward and was also a member of the Missionary Society. Marjorie often quoted Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." It is this spirit of courage, dedication, and love that family and friends will remember as an example of how to live and prepare for death. Marjorie, being of steadfast faith, agreed with the scripture: "I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand... I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." We know beyond any doubt that if we follow Christ and walk the same Christian path, we will meet Marjorie again around the Throne of God and be united with loved ones to sing and praise God forever. When her health began to fail, she reluctantly relinquished her independence after being invited into the home of her devoted cousin, Dorothy Reed and her husband Thomas "Buddy" Reed, who with other supportive family members, provided loving guardianship, nursing and medical care. In parting, Marjorie leaves: nephew, Charles Grady and wife Marie; great-niece, Tonja; great-great-nephew, Brandon; devoted cousin, Dorothy Reed; goddaughter, Letitia Richards; and a multitude of other relatives and friends.
