Marilyn Denise Ewings

Marilyn Denise Ewings was born on June 25, 1952 to Vera Braswell and the late John Ewings in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and educated in the public school system there. Soon after graduation, Marilyn moved to Baltimore, Maryland and married Vincent Roach. From this union came her daughter Kia, the light of her life and the center of her universe. Marilyn loved her family and friends fiercely and deeply, and was a devoted daughter to both her mother, Vera and her stepfather, James Braswell.Marilyn’s thirty-year career at the Social Security Administration (SSA) in Baltimore included a variety of administration and staff positions, where she earned performance awards and citations at every level, and culminated in the “dream job” she held at her death, Audiovisual Production Specialist. In this position, Marilyn wrote and edited scripts and produced videos used for training and public relations. One of her products is used to introduce new employees to SSA. She operated every piece of studio equipment, becoming the local expert on one of the most difficult, the Teleprompter. Just before her death, she was teaching herself to use sophisticated closed-captioned equipment.Marilyn loved life and life loved Marilyn. She pursued her avocations, traveling, fishing, and listening to “her music,” enthusiastically.She departed this life on Friday, February 8, 2002, leaving to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Kia and Kai Jackson; her mother, Vera Braswell; four brothers, Calvin Bigelow, Johnny Allen and Mark and Darryl Ewings; three sisters, Deborah Ewings, La Vera Nelson and Maude Lanier. Among many special friends to whom she left priceless memories are Joan Bryan, Rozena Knox and Mark Dyson. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, along with countless other friends and colleagues with whom Marilyn shared her joyful view of life.If “beauty is as beauty does,” then she was beauty’s exemplar.
