Marie Turnage

Marie Turnage peacefully entered into eternal rest March 11, 2016 at Memorial Regional Hospital She was born in Enfield N.C. May 4, 1935. She attend the North Carolina school systems until she came to Richmond in 1951 and lived with her older sister while working at Woolworth' s lunch counter in the early 50's. Prior to coming to · Richmond she had met a young man in Enfield, Joseph Turnage who she would later marry in July 1954. The union yielded two children, a daughter Beverlyn in 1955, and a son Tallavert in 1962. Marie and Joe went on to open their own business in 1959, both at the age of 24 years old. The business started out as a home appliance repair shop and later a few records were added to bring in more income. Their small repair shop evolved into what had become known in the local tri-city area as" Churchill Record Shop" . Marie opened her own gift and novelties store in 1972 called 'The Plaza Gift Shop' in. Mechanicsville. It closed in 1981 and later in the mid 80's Marie went to work at Friedman & Marks, a men"s suit factory, She also worked at the retail store THE HOME SHOP until it closed . IN 1984 she went to work for Georgia Pacific who's named changed over the years to Stone Container where she retired in 1997 . Marie always enjoyed 'Do It Your self projects and loved decorating, cooking ,fishing, working in her yard, and helping others.She got so much satisfaction from shopping at thrift stores and flea markets, finding bargains for herself and sharing them with others. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Turnage, and all of her 17 siblings except two sisters, Virginia Bobbitt of Portsmouth ,VA and Juanita Price (Robert) of Richmond,Va Left to cherish her memories, her daughter, Beverlyn Fultz, her son, Tallavert Turnage ( Carolyn) grandsons Jacques and Cole Turnage. Also left to cherish her memories a loving and devoted Companion of 29 yrs.,Kermit Leroy Brown, and MANY very beloved brother and sister in laws; a host of nieces ,nephews, cousins and friends. One close cousin who she always stayed in touch with, Mrs. Clara Mae Soloman of Whitakers, North Carolina
