Marguerite G. Samuels

Following a lengthy illness, MARGURITE MOODY SAMUELS quietly slipped away to Jesus on Thursday, August 25, 2005, with family members at her bedside.Maguerite known by many as “Margaret,” was born on October 31, 1918 in Baltimore, Maryland, on o seven children of the late William and Amanda Moody. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools.During the ;year 1934, she met William Samuels, and on April 12, 1938 they were united in Holy Matrimony by the late Rev. Frederick Douglas of Douglas Memorial Community church. William preceded her in death on February 16, 1979. Eleven children were born from this union, the late William A (Butch), Frank Jerry, Maurice and Glenford. The surviving children are Gilbert, Deitra Ringgold, Joyce Brown, Paul, Paulette Cheeks, Thornton and Marguerite Samuels.Marguerite accepted Christ at an early age, joining First Baptist Church at 525 N. Caroline Street, and her strong belief was evident throughout her life. While attending First Baptist she actively attended Sunday school and was a member of the youth choir. She also attended the B.Y.P. U. regularly, at the Sharon Baptist Church, with friends.Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, Marguerite looked forward to spending much quality time with her family. She especially enjoyed planning family gatherings and listening to and watching her grandchildren.After all of her children reached a certain age Marguerite returned to the world of work. Her place of employment, form which she retired, was general service Administration of the Social Security in Woodlawn.She was preceded in death by her siblings: Albert H. Garrett, Florence Bradley, Leroy Moody, Daniel Moody and Isaac Moody.In addition to her seven living children she is survived by twenty-one grandchildren, Benjie Alatise, William Samuels Jr., Crystal Washington, Seina Faulcon, Frank Samuels 2nd, Danielle Darring, Reginald Ringgold Jr., Lori Ringgold, Arthur Brown Jr., Lolita Samuels, Paul Samuels Jr., Robert Cheeks Jr. Tenair Agurs, Andrea Samuel, Thornton Samuels Jr., Malik Samuels, Jamilah Samuels, Rodney Talley, Marguerite Samuels, Zenia Samuels, and Nina Hall; thirty-seven great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth U. Walker; nieces, Barbara Bradley, Roslyn Brown and Amanda Garrett; nephews, Albert Garrett Jr. of Glen Allen, Virginia, Herbert Garrett, Marcel Umphery and Erik Umphery; and devoted cousins and friends.
