Margaret Aurelia Rodgers

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) A Time to Be Born Margaret Aurelia Rodgers, affectionately known as Rea was was born December 15, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia to late Commodore Forress Rodgers and Margaret Theresa Coleman Rodgers. Rea was the baby girl of seven siblings. The family in the West End area of Richmond and attended Riverview Baptist Church, where Rea was baptized on April 11, 1952,at age 8,and remained on record as a dedicated contributing member. She was a women with strong faith and remained steadfast and committed in her devotion to Christ throughout her life. A Time to Learn Rea was educated in the Richmond Public School system where she graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1961. She furthered her education at Virginia Union University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Mathematics. Also, she pledged and was initiated into Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. there. In 1980,Rea also attained her Masters of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 1995, Rea was awarded the Career Studies Certificate from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. She was the only recipient of this certificate to complete a major in Educational Computer Literacy that year. A Time to Work Rea was licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to hold teaching positions in Virginia schools in the subjects of Math, Science, Chemistry, and Physics. She held positions in middle and high schools in Essex County and Richmond Public Schools teaching Math, Science and Computer Literacy/Programming/Applications. Rea spent most of her tenure at Mosby Middle School where she was the Coordinator of the Apple Computer. and integrating technology into science/ social studies curriculum. Rea's enthusiasm for teaching was infectious not only to her students and those in the academic environment, but to her family as well. Her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews benefited tremendously from her education. She was definitely a teacher who made others love learning ! Rea retired from the Richmond Public School system in 2001, a job well done. A Time to Rest Margaret Aurelia "Rea" Rodgers departed this life, peacefully, on Wednesday, October 2,2019 at 2:03pm. Rea was surrounded by her family at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Commodore and Margaret Coleman Rodgers; two brothers, Calvin Rodgers and Ira Rodgers; two sisters, Rhoda Rodgers Potts and Regina Rodgers Venable; two sisters-in-law, Inez Rodgers and Thelma "Pudding" Rodgers, two nephews, Glenn Venable and Michael Rodgers; and one niece, Regina "Bert" Venable. A Time to Cherish Rea leaves to cherish her memories, two brothers, Coleman Rodgers of Fanwood, New Jersey, and Elder Carter (Regina) Rodgers; five nephews, Kevin Rodgers (Cari), and Brian Rodgers, Anthony (Cheryl) Rodgers, Kevin Venable, and W. Bryant (Dianna) Venable; five nieces, Terri Rodgers-Taylor, and Karen Rodgers, Margaret (Russell) Dandridge, Joyce (Calvin) Lucas, and Cheryl V. (James) Fleetwood of Grayson, Georgia. Remembering, her life and legacy also remains a host of great and great-great nieces and great and great-great nephews, cousins, and friends. Right by her side stood her devoted niece-in-law, Dianna Venable, Caretaker.
