Margaret R. Dredden

Margaret Ree Young Dredden, daughter of Bertha Peay Young and the late John Adam Young was born on June 21, 1934 in Chester County, South Carolina. Margaret was called from labor to reward at 4:45 a.m. on February 17, 2003.Margaret, at an early age, joined New Zion Baptist Church in Blackstock, South Carolina, while visiting her grandparents during the summer. She later became a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Margaret then joined First Emmanuel Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, under the leadership of Rev. P.I. Norfleet. Margaret was a faithful member until her death. She looked forward to and enjoyed raising funds for the church’s annual Family and Friends Day. It made Margaret very proud when her family had the largest turn out of family and friends.Margaret received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools.Margaret met and married the late Joseph Dredden Sr. on August 9, 1952. Their marriage was blessed with seven children.Margaret worked many years for the federal government until her retirement, several years ago.Margaret, affectionately known as “Cute’ by family and friends, enjoyed family gatherings. She looked forward to visiting the New Zion Baptist Church in Blackstone, South Carolina for their annual Homecoming and Revival.Margaret had many hobbies. One of her favorite hobbies was gardening. She had a beautiful flower garden and bountiful vegetable garden. She loved helping others develop and maintain their gardens. It was a common occurrence for Margaret to pull out her gloves and clippers and begin to pull weeds and cut back bushes, while visiting family and friends. Margaret also loved crocheting. She enjoyed making beautiful thins, such as blankets and scarves, for the people she loved.Margaret leaves to cherish: her devoted mother, Bertha P. Young, of Baltimore, Maryland; her children, Deborah Nelson, Diane Dredden, Antionette Fields, Joseph H. Dredden, Jr., Reginald Dredden, Rosalind Dredden-Harris and Michael B. Dredden, all of Baltimore, Maryland; two daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two aunts, Mrs. Henrietta P. Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina and Mrs. Martha P. Weaver of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters-in-law; a devoted friend, Ronnie Fields; four dogs, Jack, Shack, Sheba and Sheena; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
