Margaret Maria Mackey

MARGARET MARIA MACKEY, daughter of the late Robert and Lottie Drummond was born on December 10, 1924 in Brunswick Virginia. She was one of twelve children. She departed her life on Sunday August 1, 2010. Margaret received her education in the Blackridge, Virginia and joined God Hope Baptist Church where she was baptized at and early age. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she married the late Floyd T. Mackey on December 20, 1947. They enjoyed over fifty years of marriage. In this union they had eight children, Junior, Shirley, Connie, Ramona, and Carrie. Three children preceded her in death; Shelia, Jerome, and Nelson. Margaret and Floyd also raised two of their grandchildren Rhonda and Kevin Mackey. Margaret had 9 siblings who also precede her in death (4) sisters Clair, Shirley, Betty, Louise and (5) brothers Thomas, Lawrence, William, Eugene and Robert. Margaret loved the Lord and became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in the early seventies under the pastor ship of the Late Dr. George a. Crawley, Jr. where she served on the Usher Board. She was loving mother and grandmother who instilled Christian morals in her children and grandchildren. She loved children so much that she started her business as a License Day Care Provider in her community. She continued her childcare business until her health started to fail her. Margaret prepared her famous potato salad for all the family celebrations and holidays; she enjoyed gospel music, gardening and sharing her flowers with family and friends. She adored her new pet companion “snowball” who she affectionately called her baby. She became a pillar of the Wilson Park Community for forty years where she will be missed. Margaret is survived by her children, junior Leroy Drummond (Mary) of White Plains, VA; Shirley Ann Hill (Sylvester) of MD; Connie Gilchrist of MD; Ramona Oblity of MD, and Carrie Mackey-Epps (Warren) of MD. Also celebrating our loved ones victory are her siblings, Ellen Elliott (Webster) of Texas, and Paul Drummond of Bronax VA; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 11 great- great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lodell Spencer and Pat Mackey of Lexington, VA; three Brothers-In-Law, James Mackey of Lexington, VA, Webster Elliott of Texas, and Joseph Lawson, Sr. of Glen Burnie, MD (recently deceased) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
