Margaret Lee Leighton

On September 30th, 1942 in Ellicott City, Maryland, Sarah Matthews and William Queen welcomed a beautiful baby girl who they named Margaret Lee Queen. She attended a Catholic School momentarily then later attended the Ellicott City Colored school. Later in life at a young age, Margaret’s family moved to Baltimore, Maryland and she finished her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Margaret was a hard worker and while providing for her two young sons, Tony and Monroe, she met a man named John Leighton, who she married and became Margaret Lee Leighton. From this union came Andre, Nina and Dwayne. Margaret became employed at Globe Screen printing Company where she ended up retiring from. Margaret loved helping others. She would give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it. This was why she decided to become a CNA/GNA. She worked with dozens of private patients that she took care of. Margaret was such a sweet woman who was very loved by everyone that came in contact with her. While her grandchildren were young, she decided to dedicate her life to God. When you called her phone, you were greeted with her saying “Praise the Lord”. She attended St. Luke A.M.E. church in Ellicott City, Maryland and was a very active member. She served as an Usher at the church as well as being a member of the choir. She also got her grandchildren involved by joining the choir and the usher board. She stayed a very active member until her mother fell ill, then she spent all her spare time taking care of her until Sarah was called home by her Lord and Savior. Margaret was a very simple woman and lived a very simple life. She was very family orientated and loved being with family any time she could. She was also the “ROCK” of her family. Any time you came to see her, one of the first questions she would ask is “are you hungry”? She loved to take care of her family. Margaret’s favorite things to do to pass the time by was watching westerns and different game shows to keep her mind sharp. She also had a green thumb and was very passionate about her yard. She even won competitions from having the most beautiful yard in her neighborhood. On January 1st, 2022, the Lord knew it was time to put an end to all her pain and suffering. He called her home to be with Him. Proceeding her in death is her son: Monroe Queen, two sisters: Rosemarie Wilson and Mary Evans, two brothers: Charles (Deborah proceeded in death) and John Matthews (Anna proceeded in death). She leaves behind to mourn her children: Antonio Queen, Andre Leighton, Nina Leighton-Jackson (James) and Dwayne Leighton. Grandchildren: Antonio, Andre, Shemila (Corey), Audra, Niesha, Aaron, Brittney (Andrew), Kylie, Devin, Alycia, Davon, Damien and Desiree. Great-Grandchildren: Joshua, Antonio Amari, Anajah, Queen, Jaziah, Donovan, Antonio Lamar, James, Aniyah, Crew, Andrew, Nehani, Crimson, Jabril and Caleb. One sister: Camilla Queen, One elder cousin: Gertie Williams, Three sisters in Christ: Caroline Johnson, Gertrude Wilson, Christine Thompson, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
