Margaret Johnson

MARGARET JOHNSON, daughter of the late James and Annie Dunlap was born on February 9, 1919 in Lynchburg, South Carolina. At a young age, Margaret moved with her family to Baltimore, Maryland.Margaret received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools and was a graduate of Dunbar Senior High School. She also attended nursing school.Margaret was employed by the Holtite Rubber Company. It was at Holtite in 1949 where Margaret met her husband, the late Earl Dewitt Johnson. They were wed on October 7, 1950. God blessed this union for fifty-three years. After Holtite closed in 1969, Margaret joined the family of Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, now known as Verizon. She retired in 1984 after fifteen years of perfect attendance and dedicated service.Margaret kept herself informed when it came to politics. Last year she spent hours in front of her television watching President Barack Obama and his family as they made their way to the White House. At the age of ninety, Margaret never thought she would see a black man hold the office of President of the United States.Margaret was well respected and loved by her neighbors and friends. She was truly a classy lady, strong-willed, self assured and wholly confident with a determination to achieve success and happiness for her family. She cherished each loving moment with her family and friends. She will be remembered for the endless time that she spent caring for her niece and nephew, Christine and Bruce.Margaret accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Wayland Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her health began to fail.Margaret's life and legacy will be forever cherished by: her sons, Jerome McCrearry and Allen Ward; four grandchildren, Tanya Hamilton, Gregory Ward, Jacqueline McCrearry and Lynn Ward (granddaughter Tia Hamilton precede her in death); four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; five sisters (four preceded her in death), five brothers (who all preceded her in death), nieces, nephews; a devoted friend of over forty years, Marguerite Dingle (Weasel); a host of other relatives and friends.
