Margaret M. Divers

MARGARET LORETTA(MILLER)DIVERS, was born on February 22, 1913, in Delta, PA to the late Anna Miller and Joe Gray. She was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 30, 2010. (she was the eldest of 14 children). MARGARET, affectionately known as “Sis”, “Momma”,”Mia”,”Nanna”or”Nanna Ma”. Received her education in Delta, PA. Though she only completed the 8th grade, most of her wisdom was derived from her strong belief and relationship with God. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending Fairview AME Church in Harford County, MD. In 1938, she married William Anderson Divers, Jr. of Pulaski, VA. Shortly after they moved to Baltimore, MD and joined Brown’s Memorial Baptist Church where she was baptized. Out of this union came three children, Alvin, Darryl and Audrey. She remained a member until joining Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church. Margaret loved making a “Joyful Noise Unto the Lord” so much so that she jointed both the “Voices” and “Senior” choirs at Gospel Tabernacle. Margaret loved cooking and baking for everyone. She even managed the Cafeteria at both Morgan and Coppin Universities. Her signature recipes included Caramel Cake and lemon and Butterscotch Meringue Pie. Margaret was the type of person who always looked out for others. She would open her home to assist family and friends. She shared her home with matriculating nurses at Coppin University. She took in many of her family members who wanted to move to Baltimore for a fresh start. Her door was open to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. One best believe that if you visited her home, she would not let you leave until someone had eaten one of her home cooked meals. Margaret lived a simple life, rooted and grounded in Jesus; and she taught us all the Lord’s Prayer. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, William Anderson Divers, Jr. and son, William “Darryl” Divers. She leaves behind to mourn: one devoted daughter, Audrey L. Hill; a loving son, Alvin P. Divers, Sr.; one daughter-in-law Barbara A. Divers; seven brothers and sisters, William (Elmo) Johnson, Curtis (Oscar) Miller, Richard Johnson, Victoria (Leona) Turner, Florence (Betty) Smothers, Dorthy (Isabel) Johnson and Charlotte Johnson; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephew, as well as adopted family and friends.
