Mae Belle Huff

Mae Belle Huff daughter of the late Ben and Jannie Mae Huff was born on May 7,1940 in Lexington, Georgia. She departed her life on January 13, 2025, at home in Baltimore, Maryland. Mae received her education in Lexington, Georgia and then she moved to Baltimore, Maryland at the age of seventeen. She worked at various jobs until she began a career as a Dietary worker at The Friends School Academy until she retired in 1995. Mae was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church, and she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Affectionately known as “Maebel or Grandma” by family and friends, she was a beloved sister, mother, and grandmother. She always had an opened door for anyone who needed a place to stay or a hot meal. She was outspoken and would speak her mind with love. Maebel enjoyed having cookouts and parties. She was a delightful cook, who would sell dinners to share her southern home cooking. Since there were no stores nearby, she opened a candy store to help the community. Her love of life was evident in the way she lived. Even just sitting on the front steps would turn into a fun time with her loved ones, and of course music. Back in the day and in her spare time, hosting bus trips to Atlantic City with her sister Josephine and going to the casino with her good girlfriend Ms. Catherine who is also known as “Reds” were her favorite things to do. Maebel home was a gathering place filled with love, the aroma of her tasty food and homemade sweet tea. Maebel will be missed by all who knew her. Maebel was preceded in death by her: four brothers Lonnie C Huff, Clarence Huff, Harry B Huff, and Willie Huff; two sisters Josephine Huff-Williamson and Annie Ruth Huff- Wilson; one daughter Serena Mae Watkins; and one grandson Kentwarn Watkins. Left to cherish her memories are: one sister Rebecca Huff- Cooper; five sons Ben Willie Watkins, Larry Watkins, James Earl Watkins, Terry Lee Watkins, and Ghana Kenya Robinson; nine grandchildren Darryl Watkins, Takisha Scott, Demesha Watkins, Yvette Watkins, Shantel Howard, Sean Howard, Shakira Watkins, Terri Watkins, and Kapreyia Hall; fifteen great grandchildren, three of whom she spent a lot time with Jayda, EJ, and Jace; one daughter in law Vanessa Watkins; two special nieces Serdina Mae Williamson and Ashley Ann Williamson whom she loved and helped raise as her own; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
