Mabel Brown Tyler

Mabel Brown Tyler, 94, of Henrico, Virginia was called home to have eternal rest January 10, 2017. She was born November 8, 1922 to the late Nathaniel Bagby Brown and Nancy Ann Pleasants. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Tyler and a daughter, Janet Renee Tyler. She was educated in the Henrico County Public School system. Her work career stemmed from working in the Charles Zoppa Decorite Company and Lucky Strike Factory for many years. She confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age. As a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Varina, Virginia, she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Senior Missionary Circle, a member of the Pastor’s Aide, Church Choir and taught Sunday School. She was the first chairperson for “One for All and All for One” program. Her love for God, people and life dominated her existence and were at the core of who she was. Her faithful service to her church and community was complemented by her steadfast responsibility to her husband, Clarence of 39 years and her four daughters. Mabel was a woman that set the standards high and worked tirelessly by being the caregiver to her mother and uncle-in-law until their passing. She was a teacher without the degree. The one that could really show you how to get things done in life. Our mother was one that liked nice things. She had a fashion sense when it came to her appearance. Mabel also spent time in her garden and cooking her specialities in the kitchen such as her delicious sweet potato pies and scrumptious fruit cake. She taught her family how to live off the land by harvesting their crop. A strong, powerful woman that was loved and adored by so many. She had a delightful lasting impact on every person she met. Mabel cherished family time and friends with the home cooked meals that she prepared. As time passed, she made her home at Autumn Care of Mechanicsville where she met many new friends. There she continued saying, “thank you darling”. She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters, Carolyn T. Richardson (DeNarda), Theresa T. Faison and Rhonda L. Tyler; five grandchildren, DeNarda Jr., Michael, Brian, Deidre and Theraia; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Emily Tyler, Clara Keel and Mary Crutchfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.
