Mabel Taylor

MABEL TAYLOR ("COOL GRANNY"), daughter of the late Ann Walker, was born on September 28, 1940 in Clarksville, VA, Mecklenburg, County. She went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 18, 2015. She was surrounded by family and friends. She was educated in Mecklenburg County Public Schools. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she provided in-house daycare for more than thirty years. She was known as "Cool Granny", a name that was given to her by her granddaughter, Brenda Bodley when she was a young child. Mabel was truly the wind beneath the wings of her children. She was a true matriarch of the family. Her selfless love and tender care was the essense of who she was during life. She always placed the care of others before herself and this was known by anyone and everyone whom she came in contact with. She had mercy and compassion for those down on their luck and was always willing to share what she had throughout her neighborhood. Her daycare children were treated like her very own. Throughout her house she has pictures of them incorporated with her own biological children. Most of these children have grown into late teens and young adults, and continued to drop by just to say "Hi Cool Granny, how you been doing?" Mabel was married to the late George Taylor who preceded her in death. From this union, she leaves cherished memory to: George Taylor, Jr. (Chandra), Leroy Taylor, David Taylor, Winston Taylor (Veretta), Martha Suggs (Tyrone) and Mary Taylor (Nick Ahmed) (three children preceded her in death, Marcella Jefferson, Dorothy Bodley (Roland) and Ernest Taylor); her one surviving sister, Annie Oliver (sister Eleva Peck preceded her in death, two brothers also preceded her in death, Garnett Walker and Walter Walker and two brothers-in-law preceded her in death, Charlie Oliver and John Peck); twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a devoted granddaughter, Markeita Sledge; and devoted family member, Gaylee Taylor. A very devoted neighbor and friend for more than forty years preceded her in death, Ms. Gloria Jean Daniels (Ms.Jean). She also leaves a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
