Mabel P. Lipscomb

" . . .do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity." (Proverbs 3:1-2) A TIME TO BE BORN Certainly Mabel Pauline Chambers Lipscomb was guided by this scripture as she lived a long, peaceful and prosperous life. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, December 31, 1920, Mabel was the eighth of twelve children born to Leon and Hester Pierca Chambers. She was educated in the Baltimore City public schools, graduating from Frederick Douglas High School in 1940. A TIME TO WORK For five years, Mabel was employed as an accounting clerk for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City. Subsequently she held the same position at Commerical Credit Corporation in Baltimore, from which she retired. A TIME TO LOVE Married to Stanley Lipscomb. Mabel devoted her life to being a good wife and a nurturing tower of strength to their three daughters, Vicki Joyce, Beverly Rae and Cynthia Joanne. She was immensely proud of the empowered, generous, devout women they became. A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE UNDER THE HEAVEN Mabel was a member of Baltimore's Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church for many years where she was actively involved in church programs: Sunday school teacher, food cooperative ministry, senior choir, trustee board and the Board of Christian Education. In 1984 Mabel moved to Columbia, MD to live with her daughter Rae and joined St John Baptist Church. She really blossomed in the welcoming atmosphere there and served as a committed, faithful, dedicated member. In addition to working with the altar guild and the food pantry, she sang with the Leroy Giles Gospel Choir. Mabel especially enjoyed sharing her culinary skills at church "pot luck" dinners and will long be remembered for her delicious chicken salad and 7 UP cakes. She loved activities with the Golden Hearts, their senior group. Traveling was exciting to Mabel and she appreciated going to California, Grand Canyon, Cape Cod, South Carolina's Low Country region and other places in the United States. She also broadened her horizons by visiting Paris, Hawaii, Spain, Canada, Africa and the Caribbean. She took local trips with the Golden Hearts and was most excited vacationing with her daughters, who gifted her with plane tickets and cruises. Mabel loved the Lord and spent much time diligently reading and studying His word, her favorite scripture quotation was 1 Cor. 2:9 which reads "However, as it is written, no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him." A TIME TO DIE . . . A TIME TO MOURN On March 10, 2017 from the home she shared with her daughter, Vicki, Mabel went home to be with God. Mourning their loss, but rejoicing in her victory and cherishing her memory are her daughters Vicki Garner and Cynthia Lipscomb. Her husband Stanley Lipscomb and her daughter Rae Lipscomb preceded her in death. Sister-in-law Christina Lipscomb and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends will treasure the times they spent in her presence.
