Mabel J. Carr

Mabel Johnson Carr, was born January 12,1924 to the late Leon and Julia Johnson in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Bon Secours Hospital.Mabel received her education in Baltimore, Maryland where she attended Dunbar High School. She was a graduate of the Dunbar Class of 1943. She later served as President of the Dunbar Alumni Class of 1943 for many years.Mabel later married Harold Benjamin Carr. The union was blessed with four children, Julianne, Carolyn, Angela, and Harold Jr. who preceded her in death. Mabel worked at Lutheran Hospital for many years before working at University Hospital in Baltimore. She later continued her education at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the early sixties. For many years Mabel worked as a LPN at the University of Maryland Hospital until her retirement. In the following years after her retirement she became the “ family caregiver “ at her house, which was affectionately, know as “ The Halfway House for the Sick”. Mabel and her brother where brought up in a good Christian home by their mother. They attended Memorial Baptist Church for many years. She also attended Whitestone Baptist Church for years until finally finding her permanent church home, John Wesley United Methodist Church. Mabel was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. She truly loved her church and church family. Mabel supported many activities at the church. She was a member of the Heritage and Comfort Choirs, The United Methodist Women, The World Day of Prayer Committee and served as the President of The Wesleyites for nine years. She attended Wednesday Afternoon Bible Class and also volunteered at the Clothes Closet.Mabel was a very faithful and loyal person. She always greeted you with a smile and a helping hand. Mabel always had time to talk to you and give words of encouragement. She was kind and easy going. Mabel loved God more than words can express. She had a deep relationship with God. The most important concern in Mabel’s life was to make it into Heaven. She used to talk about one day going to Heaven and singing in the “ Heavenly Choir”. On Sunday, March 7, 2009 God called her home.She leaves to mourn: three daughters, Julianne Carr, Carolyn C. Williams and Angela C. Wheeler; son-in-law, Clovis Wheeler; adopted daughter, Donna Peters; adopted son, Glen Coleman; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three nephews, two nieces, one great-niece; devoted friends, Olivia Johnson, Nellia “Tee” Nicholson and the remaining “M&M Girl,” Mary Wallace; and dearly loved family and friends.
