Lynlade Gordon

MR. LYNLADE SAMUEL GORDON, son of the late Benjamin Gordon and Sarah Turner, was born on July 4, 1940 in Manchester, Jamaica. On Friday, November 21, 2014, God saw that His child had finished all appointed for him to do, welcoming him into His eternal rest. Lynlade (fondly known as'Gordon) was one of ten children: siblings, Vida, Adassa, Lorna, Vernon, Sylvester, Hugh, Dudley, Alvan and Lloyd. / He was educated in St. Mary, Jamaica where he studied carpentry. From 1963 to 1970 he worked as a proud orthopedic technician at the University of West Indies. During this time Lynlade formed a loving bond with Henrietta Bailey, and Claudette was born out of this union. He later married Mavis Mallett, and his second child Helena was born. He migrated to the United States in 1970 and settled in Baltimore, Maryland where he took the city by storm. His dependable outgoing personality immediately landed him a successful career at Union Memorial Hospital where he was employed for twenty years. His professional years continued at the Children's Hospital for yet another twenty-one years until he retired July 2014. He was a dearly loved and time-honored member of Grace Presbyterian Church since 1980. Lynlade was also a highly respected pioneer of the Jamaican Association of Maryland and was an active participant for over 20 years. He could be seen dancing the night away and was known around town as the life of the party. Also known as Mr. Big, he cruised around town blasting Reggae, Calypso and Soca music. He was a generous man and a beacon in the community. Gordon always extended a helping hand to family and friends alike. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening in his very own backyard and he always made it his point to share his harvest. We can never forget how Chef Gordon was famous for his jerk pork and chicken that he made for all our special occasions. Anyone with whom he came in contact was gifted kind words, good food and light humor. Lynlade leaves to cherish his memory: his loving sister, Lorna; brothers, Vernon, Sylvester, Hugh, Dudley, Alvan and Lloyd; daughters, Claudette and Helena; grandchildren, Brianna and Amber; his beloved nieces and nephews and a host of dearly loved family and friends.
