Lucy Ann Smithers

Lucy Ann Smithers, born on July 6, 1934, in Caroline County, VA, passed away on January 31, 2024. She was the daughter of Frances M. Smithers and Stanley Smithers, both of whom preceded her in death. Lucy grew up in Caroline County and attended Caroline County Public School. She is survived by her brother, Stanley Smithers, and her children: sons Maurice (Rose) Smithers and Quinton (Nina) Smithers, and daughters Leone Smithers. Sadly, her daughter Marcia (\1/ay11e) McQueen preceded her in death. Lucy was also preceded in death by her sisters Lydia Jefferies, Isadora Bolling, and Frances V. Smithers. Lucy was a cherished grandmother to Kimberly Green, Maurice Smithers, Jr., Shawn (Keisha) Smithers, Shantese (Richard) Smithers-Alexander, Alphonso Claiborne, Quensheil Hunter, and Christian Roberson. She was also a beloved great-grandmother to Lamar Green, Quinton Wallace, Shaia Alexander, Alphonso Claiborne.Jr., Caliegh Townes, and Aiden Claiborne. In addition to her immediate family, Lucy also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her warmth, strength, and wisdom. Her impact extended far beyond her immediate circle, leaving a legacy of love and resilience that will be cherished by all who knew her. Lucy dedicated 22 years of her life as a retired employee of Philip Morris USA. She was known for her loving, straight-to-the-point nature, and for being the life of the party. Lucy was a strong woman who lived life on her terms, admired by her family and friends for her unwavering strength and compassion. In her later years, Lucy found solace and purpose in her faith, accepting Christ and becoming a devoted member of the Jehovah's Witness community. Her spiritual journey brought her immense comfort and strengthened her resolve, leaving a lasting impression on those who witnessed her deepening commitment to her beliefs. Lucy's faith was not only a source of personal strength but also a guiding light for those around her, demonstrating steadfast devotion and compassion until the end. Despite life's challenges, Lucy never complained and consistently provided love and support to her four children. She may not have been the stereotypical mother and grandmother who baked cookies and shared sweet sayings, but she was always honest, even when the truth was difficult to hear. In her passing, Lucy leaves behind a void that can never be filled. She was known affectionately as Lucanne, Lu, Nana, and Grandma, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are eternally grateful for the profound impact she had on our lives.
