Lucinda Dean Solomon

On December 25, 2016, Lucinda Dean Solomon departed this life. Lucinda was born on February 18, 1925, the seventh and last child of the late Pearl and James M. Dean. Lucinda attended the public schools of Greensboro, North Carolina; however, due to a number of circumstances, she received most of her early education in the New York City public schools. While in New York, she was in the loving care of her eldest sister, Rebecca. Lucinda was graduated from the George Washington High School. After high school, Lucinda attended North Carolina A & T State College (now NC A & T State University) where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with High Honors in 1946. Later in life, she returned to NC A & T State University for her Master's Degree in Administration. While attending A & T State College, she was a member of the Honor Society and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Despite being very serious about her studies, she was known as a light-hearted and loyal friend who always tried to put a smile on the faces that she came into contact with. "Cindy", as she was called by family and friends, found joy in being with family. Until her final day, she drew comfort from her many pictures of those closet to her heart. Her beloved granddaughter, Jennifer, created and maintained her picture collection. Lucinda enjoyed being around people all of her professional life. She touched the lives of many as a teacher and college administrator. She always dedicated her life to helping any and everybody that came into her path. She worked tirelessly to enhance the lives of the many students at the colleges where she was employed. Her professional career was ended earlier than she would have wanted; however, her health caused her to retire from Howard University as an administrator. Cindy continued to offer care to those less fortunate than she. Lucinda found much joy in her work with the outreach committee at her church home, Saint James Episcopal Church. She often stated that nothing raised her soul like the music and messages at St. James. Lucinda first marriage (to the late Luther W. Jackson) was blessed with a daughter, Rebecca, born in 1948. Unfortunately, that union ended in divorce, although they remained friends. She was married for a short time to John Solomon which ended in divorce. Lucinda always enjoyed being in the company of other people. She tried to bring a little joy and laughter to all. She is remembered with love and laughter by the caring staff at Keswick Multi-Care Center where she resided during the last years of life. Lucinda leaves to mourn: Rebecca Warren, her daughter; Jennifer Warren-Lott, her granddaughter, and husband Anthony Lott; Valarie Dean, a devoted niece; Sylvia Dean Standback and Shirley Dean, beloved nieces; and a host of family members and friends.
