Lucille V. Morris

LUCILLE “JIM” MORRIS arrived on May 8, 1926 in Charlotte, North Carolina as the third child of Beullah King and Ben Vernon. She gracefully departed into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 after a lengthy illness. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while worshipping at her family church, Gethsemane Baptist. Destined to lead, Lucille graduated Valedictorian from Second Ward High School at the age of sixteen. One year later, she traveled to Norfolk, Virginia to assist with the war effort. Lucille was very proud that she worked as a welder on building the USS Independence, the ship which signaled the end of World War II with the signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Japan. On August 3, 1947, Lucille married the love of her life James Morris, who preceded her in death in 1981. From their union six children were born, George (departed July 4, 1964), Gloria, Raymond, Wayne (departed June 17, 1949), Acquinetta and Roberta. In 1953, James and Lucille moved their family to Baltimore, Maryland and made it their home. Lucille worked as a Chef for the Marriott Corporation for thirty-one years and retired at the age of fifty-five. During that time she joined Southern Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Grant, Rev. Nathaniel Higgs and Pastor Donté Hickman. Lucille served as a devoted and active member of many ministries. Whether it was presiding over the Senior citizens, cooking in the kitchen, harmonizing on the choir or standing as an usher. Lucille was glad to be in the service of her Lord. Over time the decline of her health limited her ability to continue those activities, but she remained loyal to supporting her church. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted sister, Christine Richard; four children, Gloria, Raymond (spouse Carolyn), Acquinetta and Roberta; adopted daughter, Shirley; nine grandchildren, Tonya, Terrell, Tinika, Leroy, Raymond (spouse Renetha), Staci, Raymond II (spouse Linrea), Tera and James (spouse Lauren); twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; a dear brother-in-law, Charles Peay; and a host of other relatives and friends. Also cherishing her memory: a very devoted niece-daughter, Pamela B. Moses, whom always sang to her Auntie-Mother and praised the Lord with her whenever they saw one another. As always the most devoted nephew, Percell Richard, nothing was too great for Aunt Lucille, anything she asked needed or wished for in his hearing was done, no questions asked and sometimes unseen and not heard of, she only had to say P.C.
