Lucille Ellen Henderson

Lucille Ellen Henderson’s beautiful life began on February 8, 1940 in Boydton, Virginia. She was the youngest of six children born to the late Lawyer and Matila (Terry) Henderson. As a child she was affectionately known as “Cille “ by her immediate family.She attended public schools in Mecklenburg County Virginia and graduated fro, West End High School in 1957. In search of opportunity, Lucille left Boydton and joined her sister in Morristown, New Jersey. After working for a local hospital she later returned home before charting another route north in search of independence and opportunity. Lucille moved to Baltimore where a few of her brothers were living. She lived in Baltimore where she worked for GBMC (formerly Women’s Hospital), The Oakfield School for Girls, London Fog, Misty Harbor, and the Department of Defense. In 2002 she retired from the United States Federal Government after completing fourteen years of service. During her Federal career, she received numerous awards for her excellent service. A love for aiding seniors and the infirmed led her to work part-time as a personal care provider. She often talked about her patients who she visited during her off duty hours.She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of First Church of God of Baltimore. Lucille’s life revolved around blessing others, caring for her ailing mother and raising her two daughters. She had the gift of giving and gave of herself constantly. She loved simple pleasures; buffers, flea markets, mechanical stuffed toys, and reunions. She could always remember details about family members and acquaintances, long after others had forgotten. Her flea market adventures were mostly social in nature she developed fond relationships with many regular vendors. She also acquired a few pets in her later years. Her beloved Tippy lived for 17+years.God, seeing that her body was weak and tired, called her to eternal rest. Lucille departed this life on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, Georgia.She now joins other family members, including her brother Leroy, who transitioned from this life on December 5, 2008; charting the route for “Baby Sister” to follow him to glory.Lucille leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters, Peggy Lee Robinson (Brandon) of Owings Mills, Maryland and Jacquetta White McCoy of Covington, Georgia; two brothers Lester Henderson and Mark Henderson of Baltimore, Maryland; sister, Mary Henderson of Parsippany, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Alicia Swann Gipe, Maceo Maddox, Ashley Robinson, Nyaviah McCoy, Troy McCoy, Jr. and Priest McCoy; great-grandson, Logan Gipe and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
