Lovie Baker

Lovie Woolard Baker, daughter of Sarah Woolard Spotman and stepdaughter of Frank Spotman, was born November 17, 1917 in Beauford County, North Carolina. She passed from her earthly life to her eternal resting place, Friday, February 16, 2007.Lovie was educated in the public schools of Little Washington, North Carolina. She received her religious education and training at Rock Springs Freewill Baptist Church continuing her walk with Christ at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church after moving to Greenville, North Carolina where she served faithfully on the Young People’s Choir.“Babe,” as she was known was the youngest of sixteen children. She was spoiled by her brothers and her oldest sister as they watched over her while their mother worked. She grew up to become their favorite “Aunt Babe” to her many nieces and nephews.In December 1937 Lovie married the late Henry (Jack) Baker. Together they raised their sons, Harvey L. and the late Larry J. Baker; and two foster sons, George and Kenneth Gaines. They also opened the doors to several other young boys that were looking for a home.Babe raised her boys in a loving Christian home. Seeing to their total education in school and in church. Making sure that they learned to know about Jesus for themselves.The family moved to Baltimore in the early 1940’s They were hard-working people teaching their sons the value of hard work. They visited churches in east Baltimore.She joined Faith Baptist Church in 1946, faithfully working with the Pastor’s Aid Committee, the Flower Circle and the Sick. She truly loved her church family making many life-long friends in her church as well as her neighborhood. She will truly be missed.Lovie loved to Bowl, winning several trophies always laughing and teasing those whom she had beat. She also loved dogs and tropical fish. And she loved to tease people. “Me Me,” as some of her grandchildren called her had a beautiful singing voice; you only heard it when she meditated on the goodness of God or working around her home.setting her free from her terrible pain and suffering and for His love in accepting her soul to live with Him forever more.Left to cherish her memory: her son, Harvey; two daughters-in-law, Sylvia and Mae Baker; two foster sons and their wives, George and Ann Gaines and Kenneth and Emma Gaines all of Baltimore, Maryland; eleven grandchildren, numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; three sisters-in-law, Ms. Katie Barrett, Ms. Ruth Baker and Ms. Penny Mae Woolard all of Greenville, North Carolina; and many devoted friends.We the family of Lovie Baker thank God for allowing her to be in our lives.
