Louise Fields

Louise Coleman Fields beloved daughter of the late James and Irene Coleman was born March 6, 1917 in Matthew’s County Virginia. On June 10, 2004, after a lengthy illness, God sent a loving angel to bring Louise home to be with her heavenly father. Louise was educated in the Matthew’s County School System. Realizing the importance of Christ in her life, she joined the Emmanus Baptist Church in Virginia. After coming to Baltimore, she joined St. Paul Baptist Church. In the early 1960’s Louise changed her membership to Mount Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Andrew D. Nance. She served as president of the Gospel Chorus and Sanctuary Choir for many years. Louise also sang and traveled with the family group, “ The Virginia Soul Stirrers.” She was a faithful and dedicated member until her failing health prevented her from attending church. While she was unable to attend, she enjoyed the religious services on the radio and television.After graduating as a beautician from Apex Beauty School, she enjoyed glamorizing and socializing with her patrons and friends. She also worked many years as a cook for the Offit and Cohn families. To Louise, life was a blessing from God; and she loved and enjoyed it to the fullest.Louise married Coleman G. Fields in 1935 and they had one son, John R. Fields. Her husband, son and brothers preceded her in death: Randolph, Eugene, Thomas, Christopher, Joseph; and three sisters, Ada, Virginia and Mary (Mae Henry).Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her. Louise faithfully filled their physical and emotional needs while showing love and understanding.She loved to cook, especially around Christmas time when the house was filled with the aroma of chocolate chip cookies. Her motto was “Don’t let grass grow under your feet.” She was known to some as “Grandma,” to others as “Ma,” and some even called her “Weisey.” She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.She leaves to cherish her memory two loving grandchildren, Tracey Madden and John Fields; daughter-in-law, Rosetta Fields; one sister, Fannie Bailey of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, William (Neal) Coleman of Maine; five great-grandchildren, Dante, Jamal, John III, (J.C.) Davon and Sierra; five step-grandchildren, Rosie, Michael, Herman, Morris and Karen; and a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and a very devoted family friend, Janice Gaskins.
