Louise Duncan

Louise Duncan, oldest daughter of Jack and Emma Dickey, was born on September 12, 1932 in Sumter, South Carolina. She went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2012. Louise, affectionately called “Sing”, received her public school education in South Carolina. She relocated to Baltimore to attended University Hospital Nursing School, where she received her registered nursing certification. She worked several nursing positions during her career at Windsor Rest Home, Lutheran Hospital, and Saint Agnes Hospital- Labor & Delivery Unit. Upon moving to Baltimore she met the love of her life, Ollie Lee Duncan, who preceded her in death. They were married on April 9, 1955, and had 46 happy years together. From this blessed union she had two sons, Ollie Jr. and Jeffery Tyrone; and three daughters, Mary Jacqueline, Janet Forstina and Nadine Jewel. Louise received Christ as a small child in Sumter and was raised Baptist. She converted to the Catholic faith after enrolling her daughters in All Saints Catholic School. She also made the decision to leave nursing to become a full time mom and partner with her husband in their family floor service business. Sing enjoyed family, friends, traveling, singing, and dancing. She was a very caring person who loved people and animals. Black cats and mutts were her specialty. She didn’t enjoy cooking, but she married a good cook. Anything she couldn’t cook, he could. They made a great team. Louise was a devoted wife, loving mother, and compassionate grandmother. She would always go the extra mile for anyone who needed her. Friends and family often called upon her for help. Louise leaves to cherish her memory; one son, Jeffery Tyrone Duncan; three daughters, Mary Hempfield (Ike), Janet Craig (Steven), Nadine Anderson (Eric); one brother, James Dickey (Joyce); one sister, Virginia B. Ferguson (William); nine grandchildren, Melissa Morris, Shatia Ware (Theron), Lance Lansdowne Jr., Tyrone Alford, Kevin Lansdowne, Michael Hempfield (Lakesha), Michelle Hempfield, Jordan Anderson, Kyle Anderson; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition, she was preceded in death by her son Ollie Jr.; three brothers, Bernard, Roosevelt, and Leroy; and two sisters, Vertell and Betty.
