Louis "Lewis" Coley Jr.

LEWIS COLEY, JR., affectionately known as “Dooley,” was born on April 15, 1936 to the late Lewis and Betty Coley in Littleton, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on July 20, 2011 at Good Samariatan Hospital. At an early age he accepted Christ at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Later he joined Only Way Church of Christ in Vaughan, North Carolina.. Lewis later married Helena Hockaday on November 17, 1956. From this union they were blessed with five children: Betty, Willie, Francine, Gregory and Pamela of Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his son Willie “Buck” Coley. In 1957 Lewis and Helen moved to Baltimore, Maryland. He was employed at Brocklin Chemical Company for six years. Lewis was an entrepreneur. He had a vision of one day owning his Business. Even though he didn’t have much education, in 1962 he started Coley’s Moving and Hauling- Coley’s Realty Company. This business involved his family and employees throughout the years. Lewis left a legacy. Lewis was a people person. Everyone loved him. To know him was to love him. He had a great sense of humor. If he didn’t start his business, he could have been a great comedian. He was well respected and admired by all who were blessed to have known him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of fifty-four years, Helen Coley; four children, Betty Coley Cooper, Francine Coley Cooper, Francine Coley, Gregory Coley and Pamela Coley; two grandchildren, Tyrell Lewis Brown and Jay Jamal- Lewis Hall; one son-in-law, Edwin Cooper. Lewis had a special love for DeMarn Cooper and Nicole Brown; brother, Leon Coley of Baltimore, Maryland; four sisters, Catherine Meyers, Betty Glover, Jean Alford of Baltimore, Maryland and Panthea Burns of New York; five brothers-in-law, Robert Myers and Rico Alford of Baltimore, Maryland, Arthur Lee Glover of North Carolina, Verdae Burns of New York and Maryland Hockday of North Carolina; six sisters-in-law, Carrie Coley of Baltimore, Maryland, Pearlene Wilson, Lorraine Pitchford, Lucy Alston and Bessie Baxton of Virginia and Joseball Williams of North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends including a special closeness to his cousin, Alice Pullen.
