Louella Brown

Louella Brown was born May 16, 1937, to the late Amanda Cheeks and Willie Mitchell in Jonesville, South Carolina. She received her education at the Baltimore City Public Schools. and later received her GED. Louella then married the late James H. Brown and together they began a family. She attended Nursing School at Watterson Skill Center and later went to work at the Elizabeth Cooney Agency where she cared for the elderly and sick from 1985 until she retired in 2011. Louella accepted Christ into her life in the early 1980’s and joined Israel Baptist Church in 1986 where she worshipped in service until her health declined. She remained true to her spiritual beliefs and continued paying tithes throughout her illness although she could not be physically in attendance. Louella was a very independent, organized, family-oriented, loving matriarch of her family. Known as “Queen”, given to her granddaughter Tish, she enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and selling them to family and friends, She also enjoyed her trips to Sandy Cove Retreat with her sister Bessie. One of her signature Desert dishes was banana pudding, loved by her grandson Lil Erikey. Louella received care at the Weinberg Cancer Center and later transitioned to be with Lord on Monday July 17, 2023, after a lengthy illness. She is proceeded in death by her husband James H. Brown. Her parents Amanda Cheeks and Willie Mitchell, one sister, Bessie Maddox, one brother, Reginald Mitchell, one grandson Derick Smith and one granddaughter Kim Green. She leaves to cherish h memories: oldest daughter, Marsha (George) Harlee, two sons, James, Sr. (Patricia) Brown, Michael Brown, Sr two daughters, Michele Brown, Pamela brown, step sister Michelle Grier, sister-in-law Margaret Wicks, ten grandchildren, Toshia (Patrick) Johnson., Lacelle (Terrance) Brown, Courtnei Choyce, Michael Brown Jr, Maurice Brown, Maurice Washington James Brown Jr, Ronald Hawkins, Tavon Hawkins and Anthony Hawkins Jr, thirty-one grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, special niece, Deborah (Wesley). Farmer, cousins, Dorothy Gamble, Justine Marshall and a host of family and friends.
