Lottie Louise Simmons

Obituary Lottie Louise Simmons, 71, of Sandston, Virginia departed this life May 14, 2014. She was born February 1, 1943 to the late Mattie L. Martin and Ellis M. Thomas in Premier, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Simmons, Sr. and sister, Brenda L. Pollard. She graduated from Bluefield High School and furthered her education at Bluefield State with a BA in Secondary Education. She was united in holy matrimony with William A. Simmons, Sr. where together they raised a loving family. Lottie was formally a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in West Virginia and transferred her membership to Woodville Church of Nazarene where she attended until her health began to fail. She served on the Usher Board and served in various capacities as the church needed. Lottie loved her church family as her own. Besides raising her children, which was her first priority, she was also a Substitute Teacher in the Richmond Public School System. Later she was employed with the City of Richmond and Henrico County in the Department of Recreation and was a Dietary Aide in several assisted living facilities. She took pride in her work and anything that she did. She was a devoted and wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all. A very family oriented and a loving person that enjoyed long conversations with her family members and friends on a daily basis. Lottie’s friends welcomed her kind, gentle spirit and encouraging words. Our beloved leaves to cherish her loving memories: children, Linda S. Scott (Earl), Billie L. Simmons, William Simmons Jr. (Marian), Phaedra Davis (Lonnial) and Christine Bookman (Larry); fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her caring six siblings: Dorothy D. Bynum (Curtis), Paula T. Thomas, Ellis M. Thomas Jr. (Mildred), Joslyn M. Thomas, June E. Thomas-Watkins (Peyton) and John H. Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends. I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
