Lorraine Smith

Lorraine Smith, daughter of the late Walter Smith, Sr. and Inez Carter Smith was born on April 22, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. God whispered sweetly in her ear on December 1, 2019 to come and rest from her labor. Lorraine was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked as a seamstress at S & S Tailors in her early years. With no formal training, Lorraine was able to take a suit apart and put it back together like a professional. In later years, her unofficial job was a family babysitter for a select few, a job which she was proud of. No one kept your child clean, fed and safe like her. The rest of her nieces and nephews had the pleasure of her agitating and teasing in her loving way. She loved everybody’s children. Cooking, sewing, and housekeeping was her forte. Lorraine had a love for numbers (The Maryland State Lottery), when her mind was sharp there was not a number that played that she could not tell you when it played and how. Her favorite pastime was watching television. She enjoyed the soap operas (The Young and The Restless), and a good western movie. To know her, was to love her. She was also all about family. Lorraine was like “The Hype Person” of the family, no was going to mess with the ones she held so dear to her heart. Lorraine was affectionately known as “The Mean One” of the sisters, let’s just say she was “Feisty and Sassy”. Lorraine was a faithful member of the Brown’s Memorial Baptist Church her whole life. She served as a choir member on The Voices and The Smith Singers. Her love for the songs of Zion also led her to sing on community choirs, The Pauline Wells Lewis Legacy Mass Choir and The Baltimore Baptist Convention Choir. According to Lorraine, could nobody hold down that soprano section like she could. Some might had disputed that fact, but who was going to take it up with her. She was also a “Prayer Warrior”…if you needed to get a pray through to God, she was more than happy to send up some timber on your behalf. (In my Lorraine voice), “I got my wings…Sure did”! She leaves to cherish her memory her Sons, Donnell Smith, Marvin Smith; Granddaughter, Tiffany Smith; Grandsons, Marvin Smith, Jr., Marcus Smith; Great-Grandson, Gary Thompson; Brother, Walter Smith, Jr.; Sisters, Christine Cooper, Sarah Wilson, Leola Smith; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
