Lorna M. Haughton

Lorna Brown-Haughton, the fourth child born to the late Avis A. Green and Raphael A. Brown on March 7, 1959 in Reach District, Portland Jamaica passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Lorna, affectionately known as Dainty, or "Bongo" to close family and friends, attended the Reach All Age before passing her exams for Titchfield High School. After which she left for Kingston to join her mother and finished her high school education at Tarrant Secondary. It was in Kingston that Lorna met her late husband Stanford S. Haughton (Sam), who was a JDF soldier. They had a 27 year union until his passing in July 2003. From their union, they had five children-Otis, Phillipia (Nadine), Jacequeline (Jackie), Denise (Maffy) and Hucal. She also embraced Sam's eldest son Michael as her own, often referring to him as "my big son" and him referring to her as Mommy or Bongo. Lorna worked various jobs in Kingston as a household helper, a certified meat cutter, a conductress on the regional buses, and later as a security officer before she migrated to Baltimore to reunite with her Mom and siblings in August 1996. She worked in several warehouses as a line employee until her job at Maryland Cup (Solo Cup) went out of business after which she worked as an adult home aide until minor illness that forced her to retire. Lorna was a devoted mother and grandmother. Often times she could be found at home with all her grandchildren under one roof preparing different selections of food for them. Everyone who knew Lorna knew that her favorite place in her home was the kitchen because she loved to cook. She would spend hours cooking and once the meals were completed she would send text messages or made phone calls advising everyone "the ship had docked" which we knew by that she meant the food was ready. It would bring us joy when we all would meet up at her home for dinner. Holidays were even more special to her because she enjoyed baking her famous Jamaican Rum Cake. After retiring from her job, Lorna truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as calling and texting her children and grandchildren on a daily basis and also talking on the phone for hours with her siblings. She never missed an episode of her favorite soap opera The Young & Restless or her favorite weekly series Love and Hip Hop. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Michael Haughton, Otis Haughton, Phillipia Haughton, Jacqueline Haughton-Bowes, Denise Haughton and Hucal Haughton. Son in law Damion Bowes and daughter in law Lorraine Sorrillo. Grandchildren Shanika Raymond, Anaya Robinson, Kamilah Raymond, Salaya Parry, Ka'Lor Haughton, Damion Bowes Jr, Jahleel Haughton, Kai'dyn Haughton, Hucal Haughton Jr, Mali'Kai Haughton, Darlynn Haughton and Savayah Bowes. Sisters Norma Brown, Joan Brown, Conceta Brown-Stewart and Millicent Piper. Brothers Derrick Miller and Audley Brown. Also nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter KaiLeigh Bowes. Sister Christine Miller, brothers Larkland Smith and Curtis Miller.
