Lizzie Mae Shields

Lizzie Mae Shields was born on January 22,1943 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She was the cherished daughter of the late Charity Lee Shields and Preston Shields Sr. Lizzie went home to be with The Lord on March 19,2025. In 1946, Lizzie moved to Baltimore Maryland along with her mom, dad and two siblings, Ella and Preston Jr. After moving to Baltimore she gained 6 more siblings, Joe; Virginia; Raymond; Florence; Dianne and Brenda. Lizzie was a child and woman of God. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She originally started attending Rock Bethel Baptist Church. She then started attending The New Light Baptist Church. Lizzie received her education in the Baltimore City public school system. In 1960 she gave birth to her only daughter Deborah Shields. It was just her and Deborah until she gave birth to her only son the late Antonio Shields. Raising Deborah and Antonio was the joy of Lizzie’s life and she poured her heart and soul into nurturing them. She held a deep affection for her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Lizzie loved to cook, eat, watch soap operas,drink Pepsi’s and do crossword puzzles. One of Lizzie’s early jobs was a zookeeper at the Baltimore City Zoo. She worked there for 22 years. She then began working as a custodian at a school called Belle Grove Elementary School and she worked there until she retired. Lizzie lived a historic life filled with wonderful journeys, cherished relationships, and countless acts of kindness. She was a living testament to resilience, love, and faith. To know Lizzie was to love her- her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who crossed her path. Her devotion to the lord, her family, and her community left an indelible mark that will be remembered for generations to come. A life lived with love and kindness is a legacy that will never fade. Well done “thou good and faithful servant” Lizzie. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved you. Lizzie leaves to cherish her legacy her one daughter Deborah shields. One brother Joe (Mary) , four sisters; Virginia, Dianne(William), Florence(Jerry), Brenda(Michael). Five grandchildren; William, Monique, Andre, Aaron & Destiny. Twenty great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren. And a host of other family and friends. Lizzie passed through her earthly world where she will join those who have left before her son, Antonio; mom, Charity; dad, Preston Sr.; brothers, Preston Jr. and Raymond; sisters, Reatha Mae & Ella; and granddaughter, Aisha.
