Listerine Hawkins Pittman

The Obituary “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11:25-26 Listerine Hawkins Pittman, affectionately known as Ms. P, Tine, and the Queen, was born on August 8, 1935, in Enfield, North Carolina. She was the firstborn to the late George Sr. and Janie Hawkins. With God’s purpose and plan for her life complete, she exchanged life here on earth for eternal life on August 14, 2025, just four days after celebrating her 90th birthday with family and friends. Ms. P accepted Christ at an early age at Allen Grove Baptist Church and attended Halifax County Public Schools in Halifax, North Carolina. As a young adult, she relocated to Richmond, Virginia, in 1955. After relocating, she met and married the love of her life, Warren C. Pittman, who spoiled her and treated her like a Queen. At the time of his passing, they had been married for 41 years. This union was enhanced through the birth of two children, Barbara and Warren (Ben). Ms. P had various jobs throughout her life. She was a Nanny and a Cook before becoming employed at American Tobacco Company, where she stayed until they relocated. After that, she decided to do In-Home Child Care. She cared for many children, usually taking them in as newborns. She loved all of her babies and was titled by the parents as one of the best babysitters anyone could have. After the passing of her husband, she decided it was time to retire and enjoy life. Ms. P was a loving person who would share anything she had with you. She was also very funny. Some of her favorite hobbies were playing bingo, going to the casino, playing card games, and doing word search puzzles. She enjoyed traveling with two of her cousins, Clementine Joyner and Cozia Cox. They were seen together so much that they became known as the “Three Stooges”. In her younger years, Ms. P loved planting flowers. She was known for never leaving the house without having on her “earbobs”, lipstick, and a hat; And you better not let her forget her pocketbook. She loved her family and had her own special nicknames for some of them. All who knew her would say that she had a heart of gold. She will truly be missed! Ms. P was predeceased by her loving husband, Warren C. Pittman (Buddy); Her one and only beloved son, Warren B. Pittman (Ben); her mother and father, George and Janie Hawkins; brothers, George Hawkins Jr. and Chester Hawkins; and sisters, Katie Lee Wilkins, Betty Sue Felder, and Lillie Bell Thorne She leaves to cherish many precious memories, devoted daughter and caretaker, Barbara P. Johnson; a loving and supportive son-in-law Irving Johnson; one granddaughter, Delisiah (DeeDee) Pittman who she loved and adored; sister, Minnie Neville (James), of Philadelphia, PA; brother-in-law, Samuel Thorne; sisters-in-law, Jessen Marrow and Blanche Watson all of Baltimore, MD; two special nieces, Sheila Thorne of Baltimore, MD and Michelle Hawkins of Philadelphia, PA who traveled numerous times to help care for their Auntie; two special cousins, Clementine Joyner and Cozia Cox; devoted like daughter, Vernalisa Barboza, who thought of her as a mother and was always there for her when needed; devoted neighbor, Clarence Anderson who kept her yard nice and was always available to help her out; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other dear relatives and friends.
