Linwood M. Chester Sr.

LINWOOD MELVIN CHESTER, SR., son of the "late" Irvin and Mildred Chester, was born November 17, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on November 20, 2016. Linwood accepted Christ at an early age at Faith Tabernacle Church under the leadership of The Reverend R. G. Hardy. In 1982 he joined the New Life Evangelical Baptist Church under the leadership of The Reverend Milton E. Williams Jr. Brother Chester served the Lord with gladness! Linwood received his education at the Dorchester Public School System (Dorchester County, Maryland). He graduated from the Baltimore School of the Bible in 1976. In addition, he graduated from the Coppin State University in 1986 earning his bachelor's degree in Political Science. He met, and married his lovely wife, Magdalene Williams-Chester, January 7,1967. From this union two children were born, Linwood Melvin Chester, Jr., and Tami Delvonne Chester. He was also preceded in death by his son, Linwood Melvin Chester, Jr., and step-daughter, Zelda B. Williams; his siblings, William, Granville, Jimmy, and Mildred Chester. Linwood loved the Lord with all his heart and had a determination to serve the Lord. For years he preached the gospel on the streets of Baltimore City winning many souls to the Lord. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day, and not me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing." II Timothy 4:7-8 Linwood served in the Armed Forces of the United States earning an "Honorable Discharge." He was employed at the Rombro Brothers Clothing Factory for many years, and later worked for the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore until he retired in 2011. He was a very loyal husband and a devoted father. He is survived by: his wife, Magdalene Chester; two daughters, Cynthia Cleckley, and Tami D. Chester-Knox; two step-sons, the Reverend Milton E. Williams (Myrtle); Paul Williams (Robin); three sisters-in-law, Martha Blue, Carlene Goodwin, and Jessie Mae Adams; and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Adams (Gloria); eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; and a very devoted Christian friend, Brother Horace Bowden; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friend
