Lillie Mae Carter

In the afternoon of Friday, April 28, 2006, after a brief illness, God called to peaceful rest LILLIE MAE CARTER, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Our Lord came to take another one of His faithful servants home. Mommie Carter was born June 4, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Lillian and Hudson Johnson. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from the Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. The family was very close to the Boone Street community where she lived with her mother and raised her family for over seventy years. After many years of work in a variety of jobs in Baltimore, Lillie retired from the Marriott Food Services at Loyola College here in Baltimore. Lillie was wed to Calvin H. Carter until his death. From this union three daughters Jean, Carolyn (Nadine), Deborah and a son Calvin (deceased) were born. Mommie Lillie loved and was devoted to her children. She extended this love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her commitment to the Lord came early in life when she was baptized and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Reverend Edward Jordan. She was a charter member of the Mt. Zion Hill Baptist Church where she continued to serve on the Mass Choir and was a member of the Senior Circle. Lillie enjoyed singing and praising the Lord. "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" will never be sung the same again with that rich, deep, strong voice. There was no doubt that she knew what she was singing about. She attended Sunday School and was a faithful member of the Monday Bible Class. The Word was a part of her strength. Mommie leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Jean Eloise Carter, Carolyn Nadine Davis, Deborah Mae Carter, (one son, Calvin H. Carter deceased); one son-in-law, James A. Davis; two sisters, Bernice Jackson and Lelia A. Harrison; grandchildren, Brian Carter, Leslie Carter, Felicia Davis, Tarrell Carter, Dante Carter and Tavon Carter; great-grandchildren, Kwame Carter, Shelby L. Roberts, Autumn O. Hall, Aviah Carter, Kevin Carter, Krishana Carter, Dante Jr., Deivon Carter, Tayona Carter, Tavon Carter Jr., Taishan Carter, Dayon Carter; and many other relatives and friends. Vivian Holmes and Marie Hamilton were very special people in her life. We are grateful to God for having our mother with us for eighty-two years. To God Be The Glory!
