Lillian J. Young

LILLIAN JEANETIE YOUNG was born on November lIth, 1949 in Hartsville, SC to the late Willie "Boy" Young and Meridias Young (nee Brunson). She was the youngest of her siblings. On the morning of Saturday, March 28th, 2015, God, in His Infinite Wisdom, opened the doors of Heaven and called her home. • Jeanette, as she was affectionately called, moved to Baltimore in 1951, where she attended P.S. 139 and Lombard High School. Those who knew her knew and know that she loved them. One of the ways she expressed this love was through her work in the Baltimore City Public School System. Her greatest joy came at a late age, when she gave birth to the love of her life, her only son Johnthan, in August 1988. Jeanette would often tell the story of giving birth to Johnthan, as doctors recommended that, because of age and other risks, choose herself over the baby. But, through prayer and an unmatched will, both mother and son were able to spend close to twenty-seven years together. Jeanette especially enjoyed shopping, her grandson's overnight visits, watching various action movies, doing her nails, and being around family. The holiday seasons, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, allowed Jeanette to showcase her cooking skills. Her banana pudding, pineapple-coconut upside-down cake, food platters, and other offerings were the talk of everyone-especially her brothers. At the time of her passing, Jeanette also looked forward to the birth of her second grandson and getting married to her long-time partner, friend, and confidant Roland. Jeanette was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Ernest "Coot" Young and Howard "Bill"Graham, [r and other family members. She is survived by son Johnthan Speed, "the daughter she never had, but always claimed" Raquel Brown, grandson Jovanni Speed, devoted and loving life partner Roland Offer, sister Sara "Betty" Ash, brothers Willie Graham and Maude "Levern" Young, aunts Beulah Street, Jennie Wise, and Elease Patton, uncle David Young, nieces Sandy, TiVon, Towanda, Missy, Nicky, and Dawn, nephews Boysie, Daryl, Scotty, "Little Bill," Robert, and Squeaky, life-long friend Ruthie Williams, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and close and special friends.
