Lillian Odessa Smith Richburg A Life Well-Lived Lillian Odessa Smith Richburg was born on August 29, 1947 to the late Sewall Smith and the late Margaret Hagans Smith in Baltimore, Maryland. Lillian received her formal education in Baltimore City Public Schools and earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Lillian accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at the Church of God and later worshipped at St.John A.M.E. Church nntil 1984. Relocating to Richmond, Virginia, Lillian became a faithful member of St. Paul's Baptist Church where she participated in a small group for Bible study and a host of other church activities. Lillian was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life,Joseph Richburg, Jr. on October 8, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland. Lillian and Joseph were blessed with two daughters, Margaret and Dana. Lillian absolutely adored Joseph and felt an enormous emptiness when he passed. She loved spending quality time with her family. Affectionatelyknown as "Benon" by her grandchildren, nothing brought her more pleasure than being with her boys. Lillian began her decades-long career in education with Baltimore City Public Schools in 1969 and later transferred and retired from Richmond Public Schools after 33 years of service. She was known as a teacher who would seek out and conquer challenging situations as she taught and inspired hundreds of students throughout her career. Later in life, she truly cherished her partnership with the "Golden Girls" club for retired teachers. With a true zest for life that will be sorely missed. Lillian was a fierce competitor and greatly enjoyed winning in any game. She loved roller coasters and other thrill rides. She also had an incredible sense ofhnmor and LOVED to laugh with family and friends. Agreat cook, Lillian demonstrated her commitment and love to her family in her preparation of delicious dishes, most notably potato salad and peach cobbler. Lillian was a strong, wise woman who always sought to live a life that was pleasing to the LORD. Guided by her favorite scripture, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me N Philippians 4:13, Lillian remained dedicated to reading her Bible and reflecting on scripture nntil the end. She also worked tirelessly to instill a strong spiritual fonndation within her children and grandchildren.
