LeRoy Morris Yarborough

In Loving Memory “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 Leroy Yarborough, affectionately known as Yarbo, was born January 21, 1941, in Durham, North Carolina to the late Mary Yarborough. He moved to Richmond, Virginia at an early age to live with his maternal grandmother, Emma Henry. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Shirley Yarborough, of 29 years, son, Thomas “Tucker” Yarborough and bonus children Kelvin “Kel” Banks, Lynette Carter and Felita Sayles. He was brought up in the church and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior as a youth. Yarbo attended Richmond Public Schools and was employed with James River Paper Company for 33 years as a Machine Operator until his retirement in 1999. Yarbo was genuinely a good-natured down to earth man. He was an avid gun collector who spoke his mind and feared no one knowing his friend was always on his side. If you didn’t want to hear the truth, he was not the person to ask. He had a passion for fashion putting much thought and pride into each outfit. He loved Lincolns and Buicks, but Cadillacs were his automobile of choice. Yarbo was known as a numbers man long before the Virginia Lottery came into play. He loved playing cards, slot machines and traveling to different casinos with family and friends. On Wednesdays and Fridays, you could find him at the American Legion Post 144 where he was an honorary member. At the Lodge, he enjoyed interacting with people watching them dance and have fun. Above all, he had an exceptional love for his children. Although he had many bonus children, Yarbo considered himself dad to all of them. His loving memories will be forever cherished by his daughters, Ollie “Byrd” Carter and Erica “Woosie” Howard; granddaughter, Christabell Johnson; grandson, Kendrick Robinson, Jr.; two great-grandsons, De’Von Clayton and Caleb Gibson; a host of other relatives including devoted bonus sons, Rudolph “Poochie” Banks and Raymond Howard, and many friends. Yarbo lived life to the fullest!!! We believe “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Therefore, we have comfort and peace and can smile when we think about our beloved Yarbo.
