Leonard Hubbard

In Celebration of the Life and Homegoing Leonard Hubbard March 10, 1938 - September 23, 2011 Our beloved, Leonard Hubbard entered this world in Brooklyn, New York on March 10, 1938 to the late John and Lottie Hubbard. He was the youngest of five children. He was preceded in death by his daughters Venus Hubbard and Lynette Hubbard and a sister, Emma Ballard. Leonard was educated in the New York City public school system. After high school, Leonard enlisted in the Air Force. After serving in the Air Force, he went to work for the City of New York. While residing in Brooklyn, he met and married the love of his life, Ida Murrell on August 10, 1985. After retired from the City of New York, Leonard moved his family to Richmond, VA. Although he was retired, he enjoyed staying busy so he went to work for the Country Club of Virginia, where he enjoyed greeting and meeting people every day. Leonard was a very loyal and dedicated person. Whether it was his family, a friend, his church or work, he was very loyal and would do anything for you. He loved his family. If you had a chance to observe him with his wife Ida, he never left the house without kissing her goodbye and telling her how much he loved her. He didn’t live close to his siblings so he made it a point to call each of them every month. Leonard’s favorite hobbies were traveling, playing cards, watching old cowboy movies, boxing and collecting gadgets. If he saw any unique gadget on TV or in the store, he had to have it. He also enjoyed cooking. Leonard was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Richmond, VA and served on the Usher Board. On September 23, 2011, Leonard departed, leaving a void in the lives of the many relatives and friends who both loved and admired him. We will never forget his infectious smile, genuine personality and positive attitude. Leonard is survived by Ida, his loving wife of 26 years; sons, Damon Hubbard, Leonard Hubbard and Christopher Hubbard; daughter, Lynelle Arthur; stepchildren, Dianah Miles, Gwendolyn Miles, Cheryl Hasell and Daniel Nolan; son-in-law, Daniel Arthur; daughter-in-law, Carla Nolan; sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Gladys Oliver; brother, John Hubbard; sister-in-law, Juanita Murrell; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.
