Leon Smith

Leon Smith, Sr., son of the late Bernice B. Smith, was born February 28, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on Friday, January 25, 2002 after a very short illness. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior in the month of May, 1998 and was baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ at the Open Door Bibleway church under the pastor, Dr. Jeffrey Mario Smith, Sr. During his short illness, he began to meditate and establish a relationship with the Lord. He even wrote letters to God during this period.He received his high school education at Carver Vocational Technical High School. From there he was employed at Nu-Dyper Baby Service for several years. Later, he took employment at Coyne Textile System where he worked as a supervisor for the last twenty-seven years until the Lord called him home. In 1990, he received a community award of appreciation from the Parkview Improvement Community Association for diligent service to a neighborhood restoration project. Leon’s love for people was genuine and he showed it in many ways. He loved having family and friends around to enjoy conversation, laughter and always “GOOD FOOD.’ He was highly respected and admired by his peers who always knew “Lee” or “Mr. Leon” would tell the truth. He married the former Vashti Wilson, and out of this union four children were born.He leaves to mourn his devoted fiancé Sherry and stepson, Devon, two sons, Antonio and Leon Jr., two daughters, Valerie and Michele, eight grandsons, six granddaughters, two great-grand’s, two sisters, Geraldine and Delores, two aunts, Shirley and Lillian, two uncles, John and Bubby, two sons-in-law, Norris and Sean, one daughter-in-law, Toya, two adopted daughters, Sandy and Dawn and a host of other relatives and friends.It’s all right to be hurt, sad, and blue,Because I would feel the same if it were youSo go ahead, if you feel the need to cryOf course, I understand the reasons why.But don’t let your hearts be sadden too longAlways remember me when I was so strongThank you for staying with me right ‘til the endYou were never just family, you were always my friends.But now, I know nothing about being illFor I am with the Lord and it’s at His willI love each and every one of you in my own special wayBut now I am with Jesus and that’s what makes it okay.May your hearts find comfort and peace ‘til we meet againGoodbye to my family, my love ones and my friends.(Insight) Love, Leon Sr./Dad/Relative/Friend
